About J&S Fisheries
Fish and chips lead the counter at J&S Fisheries, a chip shop takeaway on Seafield Ave in Hull, with haddock the fish served. The shop opens Thursday to Saturday and stays shut the other four days, so orders have to be planned around a three-day week. Service runs on a walk-in basis with no bookings taken, and a queue can build with people ahead of you at the counter. Chips are sold in portion sizes such as small and medium, and can be ordered with curry sauce or gravy, or with scraps. Sausages come in small and large, and the fryer also turns out fritters, including fish and spam. High chairs are kept on hand for families with young children.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the fresh haddock, described as chunky, meaty and perfectly cooked, with a light batter and chips that have a nice bite but are soft in the middle. One reviewer who usually eats only cod was glad to try the haddock. Close behind are the friendly, chatty staff, who several mention serving with a good old chat, and the reasonable prices. Others praise fish fritters, patties and spam fritters as fresh, along with scraps, gravy and chips, and one reviewer says the order was brought right to where they were sitting. The complaints are smaller but specific. One reviewer waited a quarter of the queue's worth of time with only two people ahead and found no small sausage ready, so a large one was snapped in half by hand right after handling money, and they threw it away. Another says they were told two sausages would be free near closing time but were charged for them. Reviewers note that fish can be skinned on request, and one describes a bus-stop stop for gravy and chips.

“J&s Friary 9 Portobello St Hull, HU9 Small meal deal £7.15 (20p cheaper if side is served directly on F&C) ? Haddock, Chips, Curry Sauce. Cooked in Beef Dripping, Potato's used were Lincolnshires. Found this place on google to continue my reviews around the Hull area. Ask for fish to be skinned..no problem at all. When it was served I must say I found the batter very very light looking, but i neednt have worried as it was perfectly cooked and nice and tasty. Also the Haddock it contained was tasty with lovely white flakes. Chips were also very good, nice bite to them but soft in the middle. Again I wont include curry in the review as a lot of people wouldnt choose it. Staff were friendly and chatty and the shop was lovely and clean. All in all a decent meal with good portion size for a good price. Didnt quite make it to my personal top 10, but it carries a 4.7 / 5 google rating and it is very much deserved. You wont be disappointed.”
