About Ponto Lounge

The kitchen serves beef brisket tacos, and gluten-free swaps run across the menu, including a Gluten-Free Lounge Burger. Vegan dishes are listed too. When a guest orders with an allergy, the team talks through the allergen information with them. The drinks list adds bubble tea and cocktails, with a Black Forest martini among them. Customer Review Summary

Gluten-free cooking draws the most comment, with reviewers praising the GF Louisiana Tenders with Maple BBQ sauce, the gluten-free vegetarian sausages, and a menu where dishes can be switched to gluten free. Close behind are the beef brisket tacos, the haloumi bowl, a smash burger one diner calls the best they have eaten, the Black Forest martini, and the bubble tea. Many describe friendly staff and food arriving quickly even on busy days. The complaints are specific, though. One coeliac reviewer says the gluten-free meal arrived long after friends' food, mostly cold, with an extra charge for avocado, and reports being ill afterward. Another found the gluten-free burger bun different in texture and the wait long. A third calls the water glasses cloudy and chemical-smelling and the tables dirty. One reviewer also objected to visibly intoxicated customers still being served. Even so, one family recalls a server who brought their chatty table a bunch of flowers and chocolate buttons.

“Went there as a Coeliac (gluten allergy) I appreciate it's difficult to accommodate for allergies, so I appreciate the effort and trouble. Unfortunately, my gluten free meal arrived 25 minutes later than my friends food, it was mostly cold and they charged me extra for swapping out tomato and mushroom for avocado, even though I only got the tiniest bit. Wasn't worth the extra £2.50. The gluten free vegetarian sausages were really impressive! Unfortunately, not sure which part caused it but I had a moderate reaction to the food as I was leaving, I threw up most of it in the toilet and spent the next couple hours throwing up and shaking- typical for when I accidentally consume gluten. Staff were very sweet, I genuinely think luck was not on my side today and i would've appreciated a refund considering It arrived so late.”

“Every time I come here, I get water. as I do in any restaurant. but I always end up leaving it and not drinking any. their glasses are filthy, especially those left out for customers to self serve the water, frequently smell like chemicals and are left with a cloudy stained look to them as well. even when I specifically order a pint of water from the bar those glasses are often left with bits in them and are still definitely not up to normal cleanliness standards. it’s appalling to be honest, as it’s the only factor that lets them down. staff are nice, food is great. but the cleanliness of the whole place (tables dirty etc) just lets it down. I would strongly reconsider coming to the Hull location. to be specific, I have visited 2 other ‘lounge’ locations (as they are a chain) and they have not been faced with these issues. please fix this.”

“I visited Ponto Lounge in Hull last month, as part of my “Lounging Around the UK” journey, with this site marking my 52nd Lounge. The location is good; it’s on King Edward St, right by Princes Quay, although I was disappointed with my experience here, as it fell short compared to other Lounges. Due to having an allergy, I ordered at the bar with a manager, who seemed really friendly. We spoke briefly about my Lounge journey so far, and they mentioned the usual allergen information to make me feel assured about eating there. The atmosphere inside the Lounge was good, although I did find most of the tables to be a little close together, especially on the Ground floor. Another party fell into my back during my meal, so more space would be much appreciated. One of the major issues for me was the behaviour of other customers; there was an older couple sitting on a sofa who were behaving very inappropriately with extreme PDA which I found disgusting and inappropriate, with both involved parties heavily intoxicated and continued being served further alcohol. I was sat directly in front of them and found I couldn’t even look straight when eating my meal, I was upset as this was happening in view of staff, and with staff walking past who did nothing, as Loungers try to maintain a family friendly atmosphere for everyone, I do not feel that was in place. I was also unable to report this privately during my meal. While I understand, behaviour of other customers is not their fault, allowing this to happen and continuing to serve them alcohol doesn’t sit right with me. The waiting time for food was also an issue; I had to wait 31 minutes for my meal. I ordered the Gluten-Free Lounge Burger; the bun both looked and tasted different from what I was used to from other Lounges, and I didn’t like the texture. The actual meat patty and toppings were OK, and I managed to finish this off without the bun. The fries and slaw again were fine but nothing special. I appreciate that I visited the Lounge on a busy Saturday, but I still feel my experience fell short compared to what I’m used to from other Lounges and I would be unlikely to return to Ponto.”
