About African Village Restaurant & Bar
African Village Restaurant & Bar is a restaurant in Hull at 19 Holderness Rd, where Nigerian cooking meets a live DJ, music and dancing. That gives groups a place to eat and stay on for the evening. The kitchen cooks suya, including tozo and chicken versions, along with efo riro with poundo and nkwobi. The food is halal, which settles the question for guests who need it. A full bar serves a selection of drinks alongside the meals, and the menu also lists pastries.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise hearty, full plates of Nigerian and wider African food, with efo riro and poundo singled out by one reviewer whose son asked for more. Others describe huge portions, and one first-time African food diner left planning to try the rest of the menu. Another says the food reminded them of home. The owner and staff are described as polite, friendly and welcoming, and several mention the atmosphere, the bar and the DJ. Service is called swift by some. The Sunday buffet is praised for its food and music. Complaints are fewer but specific. One reviewer found the tozo suya beef hard and tasteless, the chicken suya tasteless, and the fried yam and its sauce very oily, with a long wait for the food and poor service. Another found the nkwobi full of spice and short on meat, and doubted the portion matched the price. Even the disappointed diner enjoyed the atmosphere, while happy ones mention ordering takeaway and coming back with friends.

“Such hearty food! It was my first time trying african food and the staff was so lovely, gave me recommendations and it did not disappoint! Service and atmosphere on point. The price reasonable for the huge portions. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu xx”

“My experience at African village restaurant was really bad. I requested for Tozo suya and chicken suya and I got the worst meal I have ever eaten. The Tozo was beef, very hard and tasteless. The chicken suya was so bad and tasteless. The fried yam was so oily the sauce was so oily as well. I don’t think I will ever go here again.I even came with my husband to give him a treat but we both left so disappointed and hungry. Money wasted. Please hire a good chef. The only thing I enjoyed was the atmosphere. The service was so poor, our food took so much time to come out.”
