About The Ship Inn on Hodgson Street
The Ship Inn on Hodgson Street is a pub in Hull at 43 Hodgson St, on a back street among industrial businesses. Its bar is built around traditional real ales and continental ales, with handpulled cask ales and draught beers on offer. Real ciders are part of the range too, with six on the pumps, and an extensive malt whiskey list sits alongside them. Moules night brings moules marinière served with frites and pain et beurre, and a steak night is held monthly. A real fire burns inside the pub. Live music is staged on some nights, and Sky Sports is shown on screen for match viewing.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the drinks: a fantastic range of cask ales, handpulled real ales and proper ciders, with one counting six ciders on during a visit and another noting an extensive malt whiskey selection. One mentions the pub's place in the Good Beer Guide 2026. Food comes close behind, led by the monthly steak night on the last Wednesday, with homemade onion rings singled out, and a moules night described as superb and great value. Another diner enjoyed moules mariniere in cream, garlic and white wine, and a darts team praised doorstop sandwiches, home cooked chips and pizza. Staff, the landlord and regulars are repeatedly called friendly. A few mention the beer garden, live music on some nights and the newly added Sky Sports. One group that held a works summer BBQ there highlights the frozen tequila cocktails and says there is room for a disco and karaoke. One visitor on a bitterly cold day found a real fire burning.

“Wow, what a great back street pub this is. Great selection of real ale beers at a great price. Landlord was the most hospital host & will definitely return to this great old boozer.🍺”

“Fantastic range of cask ales. In the Good Beer Guide 2026 for good reasons! Nice beer garden for sunny days. Live music some nights too.”

“Great little pub and probably the best one named The Ship as there are a few in and around Hull. We were there to play darts on a Thursday and I have to say the food was the best we have had in two seasons. The chef (landlord?) went above and beyond for fellas used to takeaway pizza or slow cooker curry’s or chilli. We had the best doorstop sandwiches, home cooked chips, spring rolls, pizza, and a great selection of beers and ales. A top night in a top pub. Will definitely be back.”
