About The Sailmakers Arms
On High St in Hull's Old Town, The Sailmakers Arms is a brick-lined pub that serves Pieminister pies as its main food. The steak and ale "Moo" pie comes with a choice of chips, mushy peas, mash or fries and gravy, and a venison pie is served with dauphinois potatoes. For bigger tables, a pie buffet is on offer. The bar keeps a wide range of beers and ales on tap, from real ales to Murphy's and Heineken 0%. The room inside is small, and dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along for a pie and a pint. A loft room is available for events such as a wedding reception.

Customer Review Summary
Pieminister pies are the main draw, with reviewers naming the steak and ale pie with chips and minted mushy peas, a chicken, ham and leek pie with mashed potato and gravy, and a home made venison pie with dauphinois potatoes. Fresh chips get a separate mention, and one wedding party called the pie buffet a big hit. Close behind is the drinks range, with diners pointing to real ales, plenty on tap and Heineken 0% on draught. Staff and the landlord are described as friendly, with the bar team knowledgeable about beer, and the outdoor area with heaters and the courtyard also earn praise, along with the pub dog. The recurring caveat is space: the pub is small, can get busy and a little rowdy, and one reviewer advises reserving a table. A couple find the pies a bit pricey, one says not to expect fast food, and another was told food was not served before 16:00 but the order was still taken. One group reported clean plates all round.

“Fabulous Bar Staff, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the range of beer and how a beer should look. Had Father's Day lunch from the Piemasters menu. All plates arrived together and we're devoured enthusiastically. Highly recommendable. Definitely returning.”

“Absolutely incredible! Pub staff were amazing and I met Toby, the pub dog who was so adorable. Food was amazing and it had a great courtyard. I was visiting from Leeds and I felt so welcome here genuinely one of the best pubs I've ever been to”

“We used the loft room for our wedding reception and the atmosphere was lovely. We had around 45 guests which was perfect. We were able to have just enough space between tables and a good size dance floor. All of the staff were very lovely and helpful. The pie buffet was a big hit with the guests. Communication has been great from the start and I’m really glad I chose this venue for my wedding reception . Would definitely recommend.”
