About Ye Olde White Harte

Ye Olde White Harte is a pub at 25 Silver St in Hull, housed in a building dating to 1550. Its two floors hold oak panelling, inglenook fireplaces, dark wooden beams and low ceilings, and a human skull sits on display in one corner of the room. Customer Review Summary

Reviewers mostly come for the history, calling it the oldest pub in Hull, and the human skull on display in the corner is the detail raised most often. Two mention the plot room where the Civil War was apparently planned, and one describes the huge fireplace with leather chairs set inside it. Another notes that bar staff claim to have seen apparitions. Beer is close behind, with a great range that includes Old Peculiar, plus wines and spirits such as a peanut butter whisky, and one reviewer calls the beers cheap. Staff and locals are described as friendly, with the bartender offering plenty of history and chat. Others mention the outdoor seating and a private party upstairs that staff handled accommodatingly. The one gap raised is food, with a reviewer saying they don't really serve any. A couple of reviewers bring American friends to see a pub older than their country, and one visitor was invited to look around the upper floors, past a small door with a date plaque reading 1550.

“Amazing place full of history and character. Perfect place to grab a pint and hunt a few ghosts. Pair it with a cocktail round the corner at brainjar (fewer ghosts but amazing drinks), and you're in for a good night.”

“Would have missed this if we hadn't had help from another Dave. Lovely old Thakstons place. Great beers, service and atmosphere. Pop in for a pint or two. Good outdoor seating area as well.”

“Travelled from the North West to visit Hull taking 4 hours by train, but it was worth it to visit here, one of the CAMRA Hull heritage Pubs, plus other pubs too. There are great beers on offer here including Old Pecker on draught when we visited. A very friendly atmosphere created by the staff and customers alike. Highly recommended if you find yourself in Kingston upon Hull, to give the town it's Sunday name. It was a birthday doo and very much worth the effort and extended travel time.”

“Great beers in a historic pub , I took my American friends there to show them a pub older than their country 😂”

“This place is just freaking cool. If you are not from England, it's just not like anything you have in many other places. I'm from Texas, and live in Dubai. I can promise neither places have anything like this! They don't really serve food, but have an amazing selection of beer. The history is phenomenal. There was actual plotting during the British Civil War. That's cool! The atmosphere is chill and full of locals. The bar tender really cared that you enjoyed yourself. The staff is friendly, but not in your face. If you are looking for a true English pub experience, you have to try this place. As an American, it's exactly what you hope for!”
