Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the scallops, called truly delicious and perfectly cooked, with the hake, pork, fish and steak close behind. Others name deep fried brawn lollipops, creme brulee and the bread. Reviewers also praise friendly, attentive service and a cosy, casual bar in one of the oldest buildings in Hull, with extra seating and a pool table upstairs. A good range of draught and bottled Belgian beers, wine and cocktails gets mentions too, and one reviewer calls the owner a brilliant host. Two reviewers were disappointed. One says a steak ordered well done came back rare with more fat than meat, that nobody mentioned the two restaurant rooms upstairs, and that half the meal was left. Another says a sign outside advertises food all day, yet a staff member said food is no longer sold, and the curt tone left a bitter taste. Still, one group describes a wonderful evening catching up with friends and celebrating a belated birthday.

“They no longer serve food. It’s fine, but consider taking down/painting over the sign that says you do. I must admit I went there due to Google opinions (which have photos of food, but they are old so that one was my bad). However; I still made sure to check the signs outside. There was one that said: ‘food all day’. Then I go in and ask how may I order. The lady spits: ‘serve what? We no longer sell food.’ Again: fine. But maybe, if your own front is misleading, be a little more polite about it. I’m talking about the tone as well, not just the words. I love pubs and was looking forward to going back at night with some mates. But that just left a bitter taste in my mouth. Unfortunate, since I love local pubs.”

“This is probably the best pub I’ve been to in Hull, the owner Adam is absolutely incredible and so hospitable. He is so lovely and made us feel so welcome, the atmosphere was exactly what you would expect from a local pub and we will definitely be returning. I’m so glad to see that the pub was taken over by someone who knows his stuff and is a brilliant host.”
