Customer Review Summary

Reviewers mostly describe a typical Spoons, with cheap drinks and affordable pub grub as the main draw. One diner had the Buttermilk Chicken Burger with chips and a San Miguel, plus onion rings, and found the food fresh and the beer crisp and cold. Close behind, several praise the selection of beers, the relaxed atmosphere and the beer garden at the back, and a regular breakfast or brunch visitor singles out the good coffee. Service splits. Some call it quick and friendly even on a packed Saturday, and one suggests using the app for a stress free experience, while others describe a very different visit. One reviewer waited about 10 minutes for drinks, 25 for mains and another 20 for ice cream in a quiet pub, with no explanation and food that arrived not hot enough. A breakfast diner found the food freezing cold and the halloumi squeaky and chewy. One reviewer reports rude staff, including a manager telling a visibly upset colleague to get on with her work, and alleges a drink was tampered with. A one-star account also describes staff using insulting names about a colleague.

“Usual Weatherspoons service. Cheap and cheerful, use the app for a stress free experience. Plenty of food and drink choices and service was quite quick.”

“A good place to stop for a meal or a drink, with a relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and plenty of choice on the menu. The food was enjoyable and the venue has a nice feel, especially when you’re looking for somewhere casual in the city centre.”

“Unfortunately, I have to say that our experience at Three John Scott’s was really disappointing. We came in expecting a decent meal and a nice evening, but the service completely let the visit down. To start with, we waited around 10 minutes just for our drinks to arrive. We then waited approximately 25 minutes for our main meals, which is already a fairly long wait, but what really frustrated us was then having to wait another 20 minutes for some ice cream afterwards. I completely understand that pubs can get busy and that food and drinks can sometimes take a little longer than expected. However, the pub genuinely appeared quite quiet while we were there, so the amount of time we spent waiting was difficult to understand. I did actually ask the server about the delays, and I was told that they were “really busy.” I appreciate that there may have been things going on behind the scenes that we couldn’t see, but from a customer’s perspective, that simply didn’t appear to be the case. There was no real communication about the delays either, so we were left sitting around wondering when things were actually going to arrive. The food itself wasn’t too bad, which is probably the only positive thing I can say. However, even the food could have been much hotter when it arrived. It’s frustrating to wait 25 minutes for a main meal only for it not to be served at the temperature you’d expect. By the time we had finished eating and were still waiting around for the ice cream, the whole experience had become more frustrating than enjoyable. Waiting 10 minutes for drinks, 25 minutes for mains and then another 20 minutes for dessert is simply too much, particularly when the pub didn’t appear particularly busy. I’m not expecting instant service, and I completely appreciate that staff can have difficult shifts, but there needs to be a reasonable balance between patience from the customer and an acceptable level of service. Unfortunately, this visit fell well below what I’d expect. Hopefully this was just an off day, because the food wasn’t terrible, but the service, waiting times, communication and temperature of the food all need significant improvement. I left feeling frustrated rather than satisfied, and based on this experience, I wouldn’t be rushing back.”

“food was nice but the portions are quite big. lots of seats available and there is a nice beer garden”

“When I was in the beer garden with a few friends and noticed a worker crying and looking very upset. The manager had no care about the poor girl who was crying her eyes out and instead decided to be a complete rude idiot by telling her to get on with her work instead of asking if she’s okay. Later on I noticed the same young lady who was upset leave the pub in tears as if something horrible had happened. Also when I ordered a drink I noticed the same manager who was being rude to the poor girl spit inside of my drink when she thought no one was looking. Every member of staff was rude and vulgar as if I was only interrupting them and they didn’t treat me with respect at all. The only person who was polite to me was the young lady who was looked upset. She looked like she was really struggling but still found the time to serve me and was really polite the entire time. Another time when I went to order a pint a different member of staff rudely asked me “what do you want”. I was honestly shocked at how the service and staff can be so poor in a pub. I also overheard the staff talking about what I assume is the young lady who was upset calling her “useless” “stupid” “clueless” and “idiot”. I feel really bad for the girl who got fired and I wish her the best of luck.”
