About Red Sails

Red Sails is a pub on Beacon Way in Hull, built around a daily carvery where staff carve the meat at the counter and guests help themselves to vegetables and mash. The plate comes with Yorkshire puddings and pigs in blankets, and sauces are offered alongside. Away from the carvery, the menu runs to grill items and burgers, including a chicken burger. A breakfast station also operates in the morning, ahead of the midday carvery crowd. Service is at the table, and orders can also be placed at the bar. Bookings are taken, including for a group of 30, and a queue can form at the carvery when the pub is busy.

Customer Review Summary

The carvery draws the sharpest criticism. One reviewer rated it the worst of their usual carvery spots, citing dry, tough meat, overcooked roast potatoes, uncooked cauliflower cheese, burnt carrots and instant mash, with pigs in blankets that tasted microwaved. Another wished the stuffing were help-yourself rather than served in a small portion, like the meat.

“Such a lovely lunch. If I could have bowl full of those glazed carrots, I absolutely would. Hats off to the chef Michael. The staff are all super friendly and would 100% go back”
  • Paul Alex
“Really nice place to eat, friendly staff and decent prices. I think the chicken burger I has was very tasty but the burger could have been thinker as was on the thin side, but as I say the flavour was very good. We’ll go again definitely!”

“We made a very last minute booking for 30 people on the 21st at 7pm, the staff member on the phone was lovely and more than happy to accommodate! On the day everyone was so lovely, nothing was to much trouble including popping cake toppers on my daughters cake and bringing it out with the candles lit, the food was lovely and everyone received there food in good time. A special shout out to Ebony who went that extra mile. We will absolutely will be booking again in the future, thanks guys!”

“Food was lovely and service great little bits to keep the young ones occupied and the kids loved the Pokemon cards they were given. Ebony was a fantastic waitress came and let us know when the ordered food was nearly ready so the person having carvery could go up to ensure we all ate together. Thanks Ebony keep up the great work. 😊”
