About Jai Durga Mahal

Jai Durga Mahal is a vegetarian restaurant on Station Rd in Harrow, mixing Indian dishes with Chinese-style plates and pizza. The samosa chat sets itself apart here, built from small cocktail flat samosa pieces in a potato-salad-like base with yogurt and chutneys rather than the usual format. The menu runs from chilli paneer and cauliflower Manchurian to haka noodles, a Thali, and South Indian items like masala dosa, Mysore masala dosa, idli, and vada with sambar. Pizza comes worked with Indian spices, and a weekend buffet runs alongside garlic naan, spring rolls, and masala papad. A large vegan selection is shown on the menu. The room keeps to a basic, cafe-like setup, and it takes walk-ins rather than bookings. It opens daily. Coconut chutney arrives in small pots on the side.

Customer Review Summary

Chilli paneer draws the most repeat mentions and comes up consistently as a standout, alongside praise for the Thali and, for one family, cauliflower Manchurian. Close behind, several reviewers point to the South Indian style dosa and idli, and to the pizza with Indian spices as a distinctive fusion. Portions are frequently called generous, though a few reviewers found the garlic naan dry, coconut chutney watery, or samosa chat unlike the typical version. Service draws mixed accounts: one visit found staff inattentive, though another singled out a polite, professional waitress, and one diner reports being served a bland veg fried rice after asking about the best Chinese dish and getting no compensation. Taste is also described as variable across takeaway visits, with one regular noting the Mysore masala dosa lacked authentic spicing. Even so, several reviewers call it among the better vegetarian spots for chilli paneer and haka noodles, with one crediting fast weekend buffet service.

“If you're in the lookout for a good vegetarian spot in harrow. Then this is your place. We were shopping in wembley and we've had their pizza before The fusion of Italian pizza with Indian spices and ingredients appealed to my mother in law and she was satisfied. We had crispy mushrooms and crispy Bhajiyas which were better than Marus in Ealing road. However the only criticism would be that their chutneys aren't all that great. All in all a satisfactory visit. We got take away”

“This place has a very basic set up almost like a local cafe vibe going on. Don't let that put you off. The food is good, the wait is minimum and overall the place is clean. Ilma was it waitress and she provided an excellent customer service and experience. She was polite, professional and friendly. Spring Rolls had too much pastry which made them quite tough and chewy. They are normally better. The Masala papad was basic. The rest of our food was ok. It's usually much better and I'm hoping this trip was just a one off blip.”

“We visited this restaurant on a very random choice and were surprised by how peaceful and quiet it was throughout our visit. In fact, we were the only customers there at the time, which created a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Although the setting was pleasant, the service unfortunately did not match the quality of the food. The staff were not particularly attentive, and at times it felt difficult to get their attention when needed. A little more engagement and hospitality would have made the overall experience much better. That being said, the food itself was genuinely impressive. Every dish we ordered was full of flavour, freshly prepared, and presented very nicely. The portion sizes were also generous and definitely worth the price paid, which made the meal feel like very good value for money. It is clear that care and effort go into the cooking, and that was the highlight of the visit. While the customer service could certainly improve, the quality and taste of the food would still make us consider returning in the future, especially for anyone looking for tasty food at a reasonable price.”

“Me and my husband dine in here this afternoon, already ask one of the staff regarding best dish of them, he himself ordered their best dish and i honestly said it was worst and not even they are ready to compensate for that, even though i ask for chinese dish they serve me only veg fried rice with no spice in it as well it was tasteless and worst experience of this place. Highly not recommend this place to anyone.”

“The best vegetarian food around. Chilli paneer and haka noodles are the best like old school Jay's. All the food is great here and very clean. Fast service too and buffet options on weekend. Better than sakonis.”
