Customer Review Summary

The Sunday roast draws the most mentions, with reviewers praising the Yorkshire pudding, mash and cauliflower cheese, though one found the beef very fatty and the roast potatoes bland. Close behind, diners single out a salmon scotch egg, a juicy burger and a lamb shank that melted in the mouth, plus a good choice of ales. Service is described as friendly and attentive, and the heated beer garden and terrace get repeated praise, as does a calmer dog friendly restaurant room. Ordering is by QR code at the table, and one reviewer with a coeliac wife found the team helpful. The caveats are real. One reviewer called the dining room noisy and rushed, and others criticised a burger that seemed processed with fries stuck in a ball, small portions of buttermilk chicken, and a large party's bill swollen by a 12.5% service charge and a late birthday drink that took twenty minutes to arrive. One diner took the leftover fat home for the dog.

“Had an afternoon meal, the food was fantastic, had a salmon scotch egg to start, gooey yoke and warm, one of the best versions I've had. Burger and fries for my main, burger cooked to perfection, still soft and juicy. Service was fantastic and the staff were really pleasant. Great selection of ales to choose from. Partner had the lamb shank and it just melted in your mouth. Really happy with the experience.”

“Having spent the day at Harlow Carr, we saw a sign that said Harrogate Town centre and duly walked down the marvellous wooded path into town. We were looking for somewhere to eat that offered gluten-free as my wife is celiac. After a little walk around we found the Fat Badger. The team were extremely helpful in explaining all, including all that included how to order food via an QR code. Although I think you can order inside. We sat outside in a shaded garden that was lovely. The food and drinks were excellent and we had a lovely time. The bar seemed to be part of a very nice hotel. In all a great find, that made our trip one to remember.”

“Had very high hopes for this place as been told it was fabulous. So maybe our expectations were too high. We have been on a mission to find the best Sunday Roast Dinner around and I am afraid it juat didn't hit the mark. The beef was very fatty as you can see. It was also very pink which I actually love. But meat just can't be that fatty when its being served so rare. T was hard to cut and texture of the fat was not good. We took alot of it home for the dog. Who loved it of course. The roasties weren't very tastey. The yorkshire, mash, cauli cheese and veg was very nice though. We were seated promptly and very quickly someone came over to take our order. Then within minutes our meals were in front of us. It was all very quick and rushed. The dining room was very noisy and just didn't feel very welcoming. The beer garden was lovely though. We asked to have our dessert outside as we could barely hear each other inside. This was lovely and the desserts were also very nice. It is a perfectly fine Sunday dinner. But just not at the top of our list.”

“There was a busy outside seating area and inside bar. It's obviously very patronised and everyone was having a wonderful time. We were shown through to the much calmer restaurant and in actual fact it was dog friendly too. Customer service was excellent and so was the food. The decor was amazing and all very interesting. A good night out.”

“We called the fat badger for Sunday lunch with family. The weather was stunning and the place was packed luckily we managed to get a table on the terrace overlooking the green. We ordered the food via QR code on the table the Sunday lunch was £24 and the cauliflower cheese was £6 extra and it arrived within 20 minutes the food was delicious and you get a good portion and the service was excellent We had our dogs with us but they are not allowed in the restaurant area so we couldn’t book in advance We had a lovely relaxing lunch in the sunshine and will be returning higher recommended”
