Quick info
About The Nelson Inn
The Nelson Inn is a pub on Skipton Rd on the outskirts of Harrogate, in a building dating to around 1776 that took its name from Lord Nelson's Trafalgar victory around 1805. Inside, a bar area sits alongside separate dining tables, and the back of the pub looks over open countryside, with some tables placed to take in the view. The kitchen serves a three-course menu with desserts, alongside cask ales and wine. Sunday dinner comes with Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese and trimmings. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dishes are marked on the menu, so mixed dietary needs can share one table. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, which has dining tables of its own. A private dining room is available for groups.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the food, and Sunday dinner draws the most specifics: tender meat with plenty of trimmings, an excellently made Yorkshire pudding and a side of cauliflower cheese. Several call the dishes and desserts delicious and well presented, and one reviewer is glad to find good vegan food. Close behind is the staff, described as friendly, helpful and patient with older guests, along with a warm atmosphere and countryside views from the back. The complaints concern service and menu gaps. One reviewer stood at the bar while the bartender made drinks for incoming tickets without acknowledging them, then found the order slow to be taken on a quiet evening. Another found vegetarian choice very limited, and one noticed no sticky toffee pudding on the dessert menu. One reviewer advises booking at busy times. Another, who booked online, describes four emails and an advance charge that was later taken off the bill.

“Visited with some friends last week and had a lovely experience. The three members of staff that served us were friendly, chatty and helpful, they really added to the warmth of the place. The food was lovely, we got a few different dishes from the menu aswell as dessert and everyone really enjoyed it. Haven't visited the Nelson for many many years but the current owners have done a fab job, will definitely be visiting again soon and recommending to others!”
