Customer Review Summary

Diners single out the Peking Duck as the standout, praising its perfect cook and rich hoisin-ginger flavour, with several also highlighting the Eton Mess and chocolate salted caramel pudding as light, sweet, or sauce-drowned delights. Close behind are the fish and chips for its crispy batter and fresh haddock, the steak pie, and the Moroccan Soup, while the chicken and black pudding with whisky sauce earns repeated acclaim. A few note slower service on busy nights and question the portion size relative to price for the deconstructed duck, while one describes the garlic bread as no better than shop-bought. Several also commend the menu’s mix of pub classics and unusual options, and the friendly, attentive staff. One diner reports a particularly memorable three-course meal capped by asparagus tagliatelle and a chocolate pudding or cheesecake.

Absolutely outstanding meal at Bruntons restaurant , Stobbs Mill Inn! Emily, our waitress, was friendly, attentive, and made the afternoon extra special. The Peking Duck was perfectly cooked, the Bruschetta fresh and flavorful, and the prawn cocktail was a classic done right. We finished with a heavenly Eton Mess — light, sweet, and delicious. Five stars all round!

My family stopped her a couple of months back. The restaurant is situated at the back of the pub. The place is very unassuming as you could mistake it from a house. It also does feel your in someone’s home as well. The service was pretty good. Although, we felt that the service was a little slow. In their defence it was a busy so we didn’t mind waiting. We also hoped that with a longer wait would mean that the food would be fresher. I liked the menu as it had your pub classics but also few unique options. I ended up going with one of those unusual pub dishes and got the Chef’s Deconstructed Peking Duck which was very nice. The duck was well cooked and the flavour of the hoisin and ginger was lovely. The portion size was fair, but £17.50? Maybe on the pricey side. My wife went with the fish and chips. The fish had a crispy batter and the haddock tasted nice. The chips were fine and it came with mushy peas and tartare sauce. We shared garlic bread which was cooked well but were just as good as shop bought. For dessert I had the chocolate and salted caramel pudding which definitely hit my sweet craving. It was delicious and absolutely drowned in sauce. Overall we had an enjoyable meal and I would Be happy to come back. I’d say it’s definitely up there for best pub restaurant in Midlothian.

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
