About The Golf Tavern

The Golf Tavern is a historic pub on Bruntsfield Links in Edinburgh, at 30 - 31 Wright's Houses. The kitchen cooks Scottish pub food, including a double cheese burger with truffle fries and a gravy pie served as pastry with steak and fries on the side. The drinks list mixes local and international products, with non alcoholic choices alongside. Interactive darts give friends and groups a screen-based game to play together. Upstairs, the Caddie Club is a function room with its own bar, bookable for private events such as weddings, birthdays and wakes. A pool table and more dart games sit in that room too. Hosts can bring their own music or connect a phone to play a playlist.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often describe the Golf Tavern as a place to host events, with the upstairs room for a wedding meal, a birthday, a wake and a club gathering all praised for helpful staff, a stocked bar and the dart games and pool table. One host was allowed to add their own decorations and music, and another had a phone hooked up for a playlist. Close behind is the food, with homemade sandwiches, burgers, truffle fries and a buffet called delicious, and the atmosphere and outdoor seating by the links also earn praise. The complaints are specific. One diner found the gravy pie was pastry with steak and fries on the side rather than a true pie, another felt a burger looked like van food for the price, and a third noted a wait for food and music turned up in the evening, making conversation hard. The upstairs room is small, the pool table has cut seating, and the toilets involve a long walk down or further steps up. One family felt ignored by the bartenders. Several event hosts close by describing staff who topped up teas and coffees, cleared glasses and sorted problems quickly.

“Did a very good job of hosting my Aussies rules club's event. Upstairs area has a good selection of games for one's entertainment. Staff were excellent and very grateful for my efforts to clear up glasses.”
  • Alasdair Ferguson
“Great atmosphere, great location with some really nice outdoor seating by the links. However, if you are hungry... just go out and graze the bruntsfield links for an hour and save yourself £17 on a burger that looks like it came out of a burger van at Hampden park.”
  • Missy G
“We booked the upstairs Caddie Club for our mothers wake. It's not a big room but you have your own bar and the buffet was delicious. The staff kept teas/coffees topped up the whole time and managed the bar well. Would like to see a bit more seating as the addition of the pool table has reduced the venue seating ability. It is an upstairs venue and the toilets are up a further set of steps so could be an issue for mobility. They hooked up one of phoned so we could play a set play list and they kept the music at a good level so people could enjoy it but also still chat. Lovely venue and fantastic food.”

“Was told this place had good wings. I go with My Family and the bartenders absolutely rudely and purposely ignore Us. Not sure if was because We are American or that Me and My children are black but We were basically turned away. Almost made this Wonderful visit to Scotland a bust. Yet, not going to allow racist bartenders ruin Our vacation.”

The staff was also very helpful and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Definitely a spot worth visiting if you’re looking for a tasty meal and a good time!”
