Quick info
About Topsham Brewery & Taproom
Topsham Brewery & Taproom is a microbrewery pub in Exeter, based at Maclaines Warehouse on Haven Road, on the quayside between the River Exe and the Exeter Canal Basin. The brewery makes its own beers on site, with a range that runs from Milkshake Stouts to Hefeweizens. The taps also carry ales, lagers, ciders and stouts from other micro breweries, and the drinks list adds blackberry cider, cocktails, wine and zero-alcohol options. Portal Pizza runs a van alongside the pub, so food can be bought there and eaten at the tables. The taproom is walk-in and welcomes dogs. It also hosts events every so often.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the wide beer selection on tap, with ales, lagers, ciders and stouts, and a blackberry cider and a Radler named as easy drinking. Close behind is the Portal Pizza van beside the pub, whose pizzas, including a marinara, are called very good and a fit with the beers. The quayside setting by the canal draws repeated praise, with outdoor seating in the sun and a rustic interior described as warm and welcoming. Others mention live music, a good zero alcohol selection, cocktails and a white wine with pink lemonade. Complaints are scattered but specific. One reviewer says staff could be friendlier, another notes there was no lemonade on tap, and one calls the toilets not great. A disabled reviewer who comes often reports being abused by other customers for using the accessible toilet, because the queue for the regular toilets blocks its door, and suggests clearer signage in low lighting. Several note tables fill up and the crowd is busy but well behaved, with one reviewer ending up on a bench.

“We love this place for it's ambience, music, beer and the pizza wagon. But come on staff be a bit more friendly you are working in such an amazing place. No lemonade on tap maybe a suggestion to go to the spar and buy a few bottles...??? The white wine with pink lemonade was quite nice though.”

“Absolutely love it here. Been many times now. Such a great selection of micro brewery supplied ales, lagers, ciders, stouts. Good zero alcohol selection. Cocktails, wines. Outdoor and indoor eating is great. Highly recommend for chilling of an evening or weekend 😎”

“I really like this pub and come here often, the pizza is delicious and fairly priced. However, I regularly get abuse from other customers for using the disabled toilet, as the Queue for the regular toilets is often long and blocks access to the disabled toilet door, they think I’m somehow skipping the line. It makes me nervous to spend too much time here and inevitably use the toilet… The venue could do more to make the disabled toilet sign clear in low lighting and have a sign to remind people that not all disabilities are visible and only those who need it should use the disabled cubicle.”

“A brilliant place to relax and unwind. The location right by the water is beautiful, and the rustic interior gives it a really warm and welcoming feel. Whether you're stopping in for a drink or spending the afternoon with friends, it's a lovely spot to sit back and enjoy the surroundings. Definitely one of the nicest places in Topsham to spend a few hours.”
