Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the quayside setting, with a large bar and restaurant, an outside bar area and sport to watch. Several praise the food, from a Sunday lunch whose Yorkshire puddings were called incredible to very tasty dishes, and cocktails described as great. One reviewer found the beer lovely and the staff knowledgeable about it. Service splits sharply. Two diners credit individual servers with welcoming, attentive care right through the meal, while others call it unenthusiastic, with staff uninformed about the menu. Two one-star reviewers describe rude treatment at the bar: one says they were ignored, then told to leave despite having ordered, and another says a drinks tab was questioned and the drinks were put down without a word. Food complaints recur as well. Reviewers cite a beef burger that was mostly sauce with a tiny patty, very salty fries, plates arriving verging on cold after a delay, and a chicken satay that came late with no sauce while the waitress offered no comment.

“Concierge greeting was really generous, "sit where you like first come first served". Seating was really nice outside, essence of vape, and some food left tables so you could be entertained by the seagulls which was very thoughtful and enjoyable. Beer was lovely at £7.50 a pint. They prefer linear quing in this region as spreading along the bar doesnt seam to be the thing. Staff are very knowledgable about the beer as they kept asking questions amongst each other thus sharing their knowledge. The value for money thay you get here along with the welcome and busy staff mean you only really need one pint in this pub restaurant.”

“So bad..... Firstly, the guy in the black hawaiiwan shirt is awful. Is he the Manager? If so, good grief. How rude is he?! If he is leading the team, there is no hope. I asked for two drinks on our table, to be told 'you can't have a tab unless you have booked'. When I explained we had a tab, he checked and then rolled his eyes. Made my two drinks and then chucked them on the bar, without saying thanks, then walked off. The rest followed this level of service. Super poor. We are local, and come here frequently. But this was by far the worst experience. The chicken satay one of our table ordered came out late, with zero sauce. When we told the waitress, she didn't really comment. The waiter then told me I was wrong. The worst dining experience i have ever had. A short while back, there was a female Manager that ran a tight ship. Polite and professional. It could not be further from that now. Shame. It used to be good. Hard to believe it has the same owners as the Mill On The Exe, which is very good. * Update - Charlotte Gooding (GM), not sure why you have replied asking for more information, offering to try and make the situation better, when you then just again reply and agree the customer service was rubbish but dont actually offer anything to resolve. I feel the reply of offering to try and make it better is purely for others on Google Reviews to actually believe you care.”

“Very nice.. drinks /cocktails were great. Unfortunately we had a delay in receiving our food and had to remind the servers. The food most likely had been sitting on the side as it was verging on cold when we received our food, which almost spoiled the anticipation of what would have been 2 very tasty dishes. Where as our dining partners received their food promptly.”

“Never ever have I been treated like this in restaurant!! They could hear from my accent that I wasn't a local. I got the menu at the bar without any further information. After waiting at the table for service that wouldn't come I went back to the bar just to ask how things are done here. The man heard my question and ignored me. While I still didn't know what to do the man went on serving the people left and right from me. I finally insisted it way my turn and ordered. Again no information was given that apparently I had to pay immediately (???) so I went back to my table. After waiting for my meal for more than half an hour I was told to leave the restaurant since I was just sitting there without ordering anything!! I was told that in the unfriendliest way possible as if I were a criminal and not a client. I could not believe my ears. Never ever in any country I've ever been to have I been treated like that!! So far my experience in restaurants in England was the exact opposite: everyone was super friendly and attentive as is the case right now on the fish restaurant opposite.”
