Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food on the new menu, with the homemade chicken pie, sea bass, prawn curry, crab pasta, sticky lamb shoulder and chicken schnitzel all singled out. Close behind is the service, described as friendly and attentive, including a barman who offered a taste of two beers without being asked and a table found on a busy Sunday without a reservation. Desserts also get mentions, namely the pistachio tiramisu and the sticky carrot cake. Diners also praise the refurbished decor and the welcome for families and dogs, and one notes a good wine list and a nice rose. Roast dinners and weekend brunch come up too, and a few look forward to the fireplaces being lit. No recurring complaint appears, though one reviewer says the car park is ample but may not always cope given how popular the pub is. Several say food arrived quickly and piping hot, and one family describes staff who gave their father a fitting send off at a last Easter Sunday meal.

“Despite turning up 'on spec' at the beginning of a fully booked Sunday lunchtime, the staff at the Prince of Wales nonetheless made every effort to accommodate me and my family at short-notice and we were made to feel very welcome from the outset. Thereafter, our drinks and lunch arrived promptly; the food was very good and the portions were generous and well-priced - it was difficult to fault. Suki (Front of House?) and Karen (General Manager) were both extremely kind to us at various stages, checking in every now and again to make sure that our children were ok and that we had everything we needed. Their friendly manner felt sincere, which was greatly appreciated, and we never felt rushed or intruded upon. We also felt that the pub had a lovely atmosphere and the decor throughout was very attractive. A great experience.”

“We just travelled 40 mins to get to this pub, as the photos looked nice. We were delighted to find the effort that has gone into to this venue. We always like to go somewhere for the surroundings as well as the food. This pub is lovely and put in such a lot of effort. We didn't eat, as it was the wrong time of day, but were delighted by the pub, the size, atmosphere and staff. Parking is ample, although it is very popular so I can't be sure if there is quite enough. I will defo recommend this venue.”

“The Prince of wales is a gorgeous pub, set amongst the gorgeous west end village. Perfect for breakfast / brunch on the weekends. Super dog friendly! We also love a roast dinner here too. We’re looking forward to autumn/winter season with the cosy change of the fireplaces being lit. Staff are always super friendly and helpful.”

“Popped in for a late lunch after a lovely sunny Sunday riverside walk close by - both on the recommendation of Chat GPT!!! And boy was he spot on! The walk was great and the Prince of Wales was superb 👌 We had the sea bass and prawn curry followed by pistachio tiramisu - it was all delicious 😋 We were served by Owen who was excellent and recommended the dishes we chose and he was spot on too! When we first arrived, my husband was looking at the beers on tap and the barman came straight up to him and gave him a taste of the two he was considering - without having to ask - this is what good service is all about. And most importantly, Tommy Shelby our whippet was welcomed too. You’ve nailed it guys - we will certainly be back - thank you x”

“This pub definitely deserves a higher rate! We were offered a lovely table on a busy Sunday, despite not having a reservation. The food was fresh and well seasoned, most if not all things we tried seemed made in house which is always a great sign! My partner, who is a chef, gave his dish a 9/10 - not an easy task! Lastly, our server Dailiy was super friendly and attentive. Probably our new favourite local pub!”
