Customer Review Summary
The riverside setting draws the most comment, with reviewers describing window tables and a wide front terrace overlooking the Thames, and boats passing on a sunny day. Food comes close behind. Diners praise the roasts with plenty of vegetables and gravy, a pork belly roast, ribs, a chicken burger and the small plates, with a warm chocolate brownie and a chocolate fudge dessert also going down well. One afternoon tea was adapted for dietary requirements. Several say the pub has improved under new management, and the Guinness, beer and wine get mentions. Staff are called friendly, though one reviewer found drinks orders and plate clearing slow. The complaints are specific. Mains and desserts ran out on Christmas Eve, one diner found no food served on a sunny Saturday afternoon, not even chips, and another called a Caesar salad soggy and tasteless. Two reviewers say bar staff warned of a very long food wait, and one reports the order arrived shortly after they ordered anyway.

“Under the new management The Anglers is great! Fantastic waterside location. Great beer and wine options and the food, used to be mediocre, is now really good!! We have been multiple times. The staff are all lovely as well. Would highly recommend!”

“Lots of potential for this pub as it has a great position near the water. Sadly it's let down by the service is often slow and the food is well below average. Had a Caesar salad and was nothing like the real thing. Soggy lettuce with chicken, croutons and a drizzle of dressing. Tasteless and had better store bought.”

“A gem of a find. We were locally in the area at Shepperton Marina, and we passed this when going up river. Upon Googling, it looked like a good place to go to food and as it served ribs, my daughter had decided that we were definitely going. A quick phone call confirmed availability for the 4 of us. We were sat in a lovely window are overlooking the river which was beautiful. I must admit, we nearly didn't go in as we weren't too sure from the outside and especially compared to the pub next door which did seem more appealing, however we are so glad that we went into the Anglers. The staff were extremely friendly. The Guinness is VERY good. The food - well, it was so hard to choose off the menu. My husband went for the 5 small plates (he was hoping I was going to go for the 3 small plates so we could have had most of the choices as it was so hard to choose). My husband was in heaven. Every dish was presented beautifully and tasted amazing. My eldest daughter had the chicken burger which she said was the best she ever had, and my youngest had her ribs, which again, she was in food heaven. I had the pork belly roast which was equally delicious. I have no idea how they managed it, but my girls then had the warm chocolate brownie which was devoured. Their smiling faces said it all. We live in Southampton, but we would happily drive the hour or so to come back again. The only slight criticism would be the service, whilst the staff were very friendly and informative, it could have been quicker - quicker coming to get a drinks order, and clearing plates after. But it is such a small minor thing when you experience amazing quality food. Could not recommend this place more.”

“I came here on Christmas Eve and had a very disappointing experience. The main issue was with supply. Several of us were were unable to have our first choice of main as there wasn't any left. It was the same situation when it came to dessert. I just put it down to poor management and assumed they would learn from the mistakes. However, returning five months later problems still exist. We where told that the wait for food was 1 hour 30, so we didn't order. The bar staff were saying this to anyone trying to order food. This seemed strange as I couldn't see any table with food on it, and only saw 2 dishes come out of the kitchen. We then noticed that a couple patient enough to wait for food, received there order fifteen minutes later. So we risked ordering food, being told it would be an hour. We received our food 13 minutes later. I did question why the the wait for food was so long when no food was coming out and there was no plates on any table. The bar staff couldn't explain. I don't appreciate being lied to. I will not return.”
