Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the monkfish, praised as excellent and the best dish of the night, with the lamb rump, chicken and venison tartare close behind. Starters and snacks also draw mentions, including pigs head croquettes, duck hearts on toast and the ham hock terrine, along with the soft, freshly baked bread and the tartiflette side. Dessert gets a standout nod for the olive oil cake and the Paris-Brest with rhubarb. Reviewers describe friendly, chatty staff who handled dietary needs, once printing a separate dairy free menu with dairy free bread. Criticism is modest but specific: the venison tartare was small, the lamb rump a bit tough, the chicken fat butter tasted only of herbs, and one found dessert mediocre. One reviewer called the music loud, the tables close together and the bill hard to request across the three sections of the room. A birthday party was given a secluded area, with individual printed menus as seating cards.

“We were a table of 6, and had a wonderful evening. Beautifully presented, delicious food. A lot of care and attention on small details. The staff were lovely and just the right amount of service.”

“An absolutely fantastic meal was enjoyed whilst in Edinburgh @vinette_edinburgh - the food was superb, check out the beautiful fish, venison tartare and chicken, not to mention their freshly cooked bread rolls. An absolute dining highlight. We also secured a walk in, which was greatly appreciated: the venue connects to a bar there called Vivien. You can have a drink before dining”

“Bread is very soft and fluffy, perfectly baked. The butter with chicken fat was slightly disappointing as we could only taste the herb in the butter, nothing else. The lamb rump was quite well cooked, abit on the tougher side but still quote nice. The monkfish was excellent, probably the best dish of the night. The flesh was the nice soft meaty bite you would expect from monkfish. Sauce and mussels were really good too. The sirloin was very tender in general but has alot of sinue. The fries were crispy and fluffy inside, really good. The staff was amazing.”

“Had a brilliant evening at Vinette. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, with a lovely interior that feels cosy and stylish - lovely table in the main restaurant with a view to the open kitchen. The food was excellent from start to finish. The snacks of pigs head croquettes, smoked trout roe/ cream cheese / crisps and chevre, honey & walnut were superb - light and delicious. The trout ceviche was beautifully served, fresh and full of flavour, the ham hock terrine was the best ever - rich and beautifully done, and both the lamb rump and monkfish were cooked perfectly - still thinking about the lamb jus and pesto - fantastic flavour! The Paris-Brest with rhubarb was a standout dessert and a great way to finish the meal. A special thank you to Elle and Robyn, who were so friendly & attentive throughout the evening. They really helped make our night feel special (and a shout-out to Ben too 😉!) It’s clear the kitchen brigade are all super-talented too! Great buzz and fab atmosphere- busy busy. Looking forward to coming back soon. 🩷”

“Monkfish was very good. Venison tartare was nice, albeit very small in portion. Dessert was mediocre. Music was loud and tables were close to one another, so people started to raise their voice when talking (after a drink or two). The restaurant ambience was neither a noisy pub nor a casual French bistro, and was stuck in between. The restaurant was split into 3 sections based on floor layout and was making it hard to get the attention of the server to send the bill for payment.”
