About The Register Club
Inside a historic former Royal Bank of Scotland building, The Register Club is a cocktail bar and lounge restaurant on the fourth floor of the Edinburgh Grand, at 42 St Andrew Sq. Bank-style decor and an Art Deco-inspired interior set the room. It serves breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea and cocktails, and it is open daily. Afternoon tea comes in sections: a savoury course with Arbroath Smokie pâté and a haggis bon bon, then a sandwich selection, Cranachan, sweet treats, and scones with clotted cream, jam and butter. The Cranachan is made with cream, heather honey, raspberries and oats. The tea list is large, and the tea itself is unlimited. Guests can add champagne to the afternoon tea.

Customer Review Summary
Afternoon tea draws most reviewers, who describe savoury courses such as Arbroath Smokie pate, haggis bon bon, bubble and squeak and a whiskey smoked brisket slider, followed by scones, macarons and the Cranachan, which both a fan and a critic singled out as a lovely touch. Close behind is the building itself, a renovated former bank with historic touches that several call beautiful. Cocktails, wines and whiskeys are praised too, along with a Scottish breakfast and a Bloody Mary described as spicy, and one reviewer says gluten free requests were easy. Staff are widely called friendly and attentive, and one guest says a water dish was brought for their dog straight away. The caveats are specific. One diner found the afternoon tea very average, with too many sweet treats and little savoury, and long gaps without service, so they had to wave to order wine and ask for their champagne. Another found the breakfast menu very limited, and one wanted more jazz than modern music. The tipsy laird was a bit strong for one guest.

“This was an expensive afternoon tea and we were extremely disappointed. It wax easily £15/£20 more than other teas. The guys that served us were very nice when they were there but they really weren’t there very much. We went long periods of time with nothing - something they did apology for but seemed to do nothing to improve the situation. There was a photo shoot going on. Not sure how much they contributed but the gig back there at every opportunity. The tea was very average. I liked the lamb kofta and corn bread but the rest was same old.the desserts were very nice but the balance was a bit out. Not much savoury and way too many sweet treats. The Cranahan was a really lovely touch and we definitely enjoyed that. We had to ask for our champagne and j actually waved for a good while to get attention so I could order a glass of wine.”

“We went to the Register Club to try the Grand Afternoon Tea and it was indeed, Grand ! We had a salty part with sandwiches and tartlet : every composition was savory and innovative. Two other parts were sweet with cakes, fudge and macaroon : here again very savory and gourmand. All these little dishes actually made us feel full and satisfied! The tea is unlimited and you have the option to have champagne alongside your afternoon tea. The service is also very good and the place is beautiful.”

“We were looking for a cozy, stylish, Art Deco–inspired cocktail bar, and this bar met all our expectations. The cocktails were good/excellent. However, we were most impressed by the interior design. I would have preferred more jazz-style music. Modern music didn’t really suit the atmosphere.”
