About Taisteal
Taisteal is a modern European restaurant in Edinburgh, at 1 Forth St, built around a seven-course tasting menu with an optional drinks pairing. The kitchen works with meat and seafood, and cocktails and a range of wines sit alongside the food. Guests seated before 7 pm can choose a two- or three-course meal instead of the full tasting. Anyone with dietary restrictions can call ahead to talk through their needs with the team.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the duck, called the standout main by a family of six and praised alongside the arancino and the baked alaska by another reviewer. The venison, described as so tender it melted in the mouth, comes close behind, and several reviewers mention the seven course tasting menu with drinks pairings, with the scallop and taco named as favourites. Cocktails are called unique and delicious, and the wine selection gets a good word too. Service is repeatedly described as friendly and attentive, including one team that arranged a surprise for a friend and another that managed a quick dinner during the Fringe. The one criticism is small: a reviewer found the croquette and lamb a tad salty on the tasting menu. Several reviewers say the restaurant needs to be booked, and one suggests calling ahead about dietary restrictions. Many describe the value as exceptional, and a few mention the special two or three course meal for those seated before 7 pm.

“Due to the Fringe we had a somewhat rushed dinner. They met our demand for quick service and delivered 4 meals of outstanding quality. This was on the spur of the moment. A very memorable evening, with a menu that means we will be back during our stay in Edinburgh.”

“What a wonderful place. We had the 7 course tasting menu and the drinks pairing. The food was absolutely awesome. We have had many tasting menus before, but I think this is one of the most enjoyable and the last expensive. The drinks were lovely too. A real gem - we will definitely be back.”

“Always a memorable experience and I've never been disappointed. The restaurant is cosy and with the door open on a warm evening, the temperature was perfect..service was attentive and so friendly. The value for money here is exceptional and every dish was sublime, from the arancino to the duck and the baked alaska. This is the restaurant I always recommend to friends for the relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food and amazing value for money. This definitely won't be my last visit.”

“We were a family of six. Some of us ordered the two-course menu, while others chose the three-course menu. The duck was definitely the standout main course—perfectly cooked, tender, and still wonderfully juicy. It was absolutely delicious. We had a wonderful dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.”
