Quick info
About OTTO Portobello
On Portobello High Street, OTTO Portobello serves brunch through the daytime with no bookings taken, so seats go to whoever walks in. The OTTORIZZO brings together baby potatoes, peppers, spinach, poached eggs and chorizo, alongside a menu that runs from French toast and buttermilk pancakes to a sausage stack, eggs benny and a full Scottish. Toasties arrive with a side of crisps, and freshly squeezed juices and oat milk or matcha options round out the drinks. The kitchen is open plan, so food can be watched as it is prepared. A step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children. Dogs are welcome inside rather than left at the door. The restaurant opens daily for daytime service only, and food is also available for delivery through Deliveroo for those eating off site.

Customer Review Summary
French toast is what reviewers return to most at this Portobello brunch spot, with one describing a fruit version with berries, coulis and plain yogurt as the sweet breakfast they had been searching for, and another eyeing it for next time. Close behind are the fluffy buttermilk pancakes, eggs benny, a Full Scottish, scrambled eggs on sourdough and the OTTORIZZO with chorizo and poached eggs. Diners also mention an oat milk cappuccino, an oat matcha, freshly squeezed juices and a real cup of tea rather than tea bags. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and families note a kids' menu and no rush to leave. Dogs are described as actively encouraged. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who found the breakfast beans tinned and tepid, the sausages grey with grill burn despite asking for well done, and the espresso burned. A couple of others wished for a salad garnish with a toastie and for something for kids to draw on. Several say it is busy, though a party of four was seated immediately on a rainy Sunday.

“When I walked in and said “are you dog friendly?” And the guy behind the counter said “oh yes, actively encouraged” I knew I was in the right place! We really enjoyed our visit to OTTO’s. We had originally gone to The Beach House, who advertised as dog friendly, but actually were only dog friendly outside (and it was chucking it down!) so happened upon OTTO’s and I’m so glad we did. We went for lunch. I had OTTORIZZO: a delicious dish with baby potatoes, peppers, spinach, poached eggs and chorizo. Absolutely delicious. My husband had a toasty, which came with a handful of crisps (tbh a little salad garnish would have been a nice addition). The decor of the cafe was lovely and the open plan kitchen allowed me to see my meal being made with lots of care and attention. Defo recommend a visit.”

“Could be great but a couple of pointers on the breakfast - beans clearly supermarket brand from the can microwaved to tepid (really should be making their own beans for this price) and sausages despite asking for well done came mainly grey with a bit of grill burn. Espresso was a little burned and tasted improperly extracted and a little stale perhaps as though the machine isn’t cleaned that often. Vine tomatos a nice touch but need some proper oven blistering. Decent quality bacon well cooked. Will give it another go in a view go in a few months.”

“We decided to head along for a family brunch, after my wife had been along with friends. It was a great buzz and an almost full cafe. Thankfully we didn't wait long to get a seat. We got a nice seat by the window, great spot for people watching for the kids. There was a good extensive menu, with options for the kids too. We went for a Sausage stack, kids went for pancake and sausage. Good tasting coffees too. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and service was quick. The food was really nicely presented, and very tasty too. We were not rushed to leave our table. I am unsure if there was anything available for the kids to draw on, but I'd recommend having those available as we've always found it to be helpful. A great addition to Portobello and look forward to returning again soon, and any plans to make bookings available, this would also be great. Thanks to the team for looking after us.”
