About Leaf & Bean Cafe
Leaf & Bean Cafe is a coffee stand in Edinburgh on Charterhall Rd, served from a converted police box beside the park entrance. Each coffee and hot chocolate comes with a piece of tablet, so the drink arrives with a small sweet on the side. The coffee list includes the flat white and an oat latte, and the baked goods and traybakes include brownies and caramel shortbread. Snacks, cold drinks and juice are sold too, and items are labelled at the stand. The stand is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Coffee is the main draw, with reviewers praising a flat white and an oat latte as properly made by friendly baristas, plus lovely hot chocolates. Close behind are the baked goods, including brownies, caramel shortbread and traybakes, and several mention the spot by the park entrance as a pit stop on a walk. The recurring complaint is pricing. Two reviewers say items are labelled but not priced, with one told that not displaying prices is company policy, and the other saying they never know what they will be charged and so buy less. Another calls a takeaway latte steep after a rise within a month and finds the "large" size underwhelming, while stressing that the staff are efficient and friendly. One parent reports that a baby chino served to a two year old was boiling hot and the child was in pain for a few hours. Several reviewers close on the small piece of tablet that comes alongside the coffee.

“The coffee is fine, and the staff are great - this 3-star rating is absolutely not a reflection on them. They’re efficient, friendly, and not the reason for this review. This is aimed squarely at the owners. £4.10 for a take-away latte is steep. It was £4 just last month, so a price hike already feels excessive. And for what’s labelled as a “large” coffee, the size is pretty underwhelming. Even accounting for rent and wages, the markup on a single cup like this is massive (155% on the back of a fag packet). It’s hard to justify charging this much; especially from a business with multiple sites, including a large café near the Meadows. If they’re not balancing pricing across their estate, that feels more like a cash grab than smart business. It’s an ok coffee, but the pricing is off-putting and I can't see how it'll survive going into the next few months at this rate. I won’t be rushing back.”

“Thank you for the amazing flat white today at Cluny Gardens, Edinburgh. Really helped and comfort while driving for long hours. Small gem coffee stand. Lovely fellow made me the perfect coffee to enjoy while travelling. Trust me i am not easy when it comes to coffee.”

“No prices on display. I walk regularly at Blackford Pond and might treat myself to a coffee and a traybake. But I am put off by the fact that everything is labelled but not priced. I asked the girl in the box about this - she said that not showing the prices is "company policy". Certainly this policy is deterring me from buying anything. Maybe she makes up the prices depending on how affluent you look?”

“Great box! Just spent my afternoon in there a few months ago with a leng brunette and was very spacious and riveting. Quite cheap and would recommend. Staff super super leng and creative. I love the box.”

“Staff needs basic training!. Serving boiling milk to a child should we a big no!. We ordered several drinks including a white coffee and a baby chino for a 2 year old. While the white coffee was lukewarm, the baby chino, was boiling hot. I trusted the judgement of the barista and give to my child straight away on clear view of the staff, thinking somebody with common sense will not serve boiling milk to a toddler, unfortunately we were wrong. Fortunately he was only in pain for a few hours but it could have gone horribly wrong. Please play more attention while preparing beverages for toddlers.”
