Quick info
About Cuthbert's Deli + Cafe
Cuthbert's Deli + Cafe is a coffee shop in the Marchmont area of Edinburgh, on Spottiswoode Road. Breakfast leads the menu, with a full Scottish breakfast bringing together haggis, black pudding, sausages, bacon and eggs, and the beans kept separate on the plate. A haggis roll sits alongside the breakfast roll for anyone eating something smaller, and French toast comes with bacon, maple syrup and cinnamon apples served on the side. Bread arrives with butter in sachets. Cappuccinos and other coffee drinks run through the day, with pots of tea as well. Seating is indoors, and tables outside give the option of outdoor dining. Dogs are welcome in, high chairs are there for families with young children, and a step-free entrance keeps the room reachable for visitors with mobility needs. The cafe opens daily and runs on a walk-in basis rather than taking bookings.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the full Scottish breakfast and the French toast, with the French toast described as incredible and delicious, served with bacon, maple syrup and cinnamon apples. Close behind, the breakfast roll, haggis roll and eggs benedict with salmon draw praise, and several also mention a toastie, homemade soup, a brownie and a generous pot of tea alongside good cappuccinos. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, welcoming and kind, and the cafe is described as cosy, relaxed and good for studying or catching up with friends. The complaints are small but specific. One reviewer found the cinnamon apples on the French toast served fridge cold, another disliked butter in sachets and wanted looser eggs, and one felt a requested ham and cheese croissant was handed over by a chef with a face like thunder and tasted as if it had simply been put together. A few note the place is dog-friendly and has plenty of seating even when busy on a Sunday morning, and one reviewer praised the hot cinnamon apples served on the side of the French toast.

“A couple of lovely visits this week whilst I’m staying locally. Gorgeous coffee, a warm welcome, a stunning toastie and homemade soup yesterday (sorry, no photos as I was half way through before I remembered!) and a cappuccino and brownie today. Really friendly service, kind and chatty staff and a great atmosphere. I will be back again soon.”

“Everyone was so friendly, inviting, and kind. We stopped in about 4 times during our week stay. Tried a couple other different coffee shops in the neighborhood and they were by far our favorite. Try the eggs benedicts with salmon! 😍”
