About The Hearsall Inn

The Hearsall Inn is an independent, family-run pub in the Chapelfields area of Coventry, on Craven St, and a traditional English local with a history of Irish landlords. The bar pours Guinness, with Carling on tap alongside it. Filled rolls, called batches, are sold behind the bar for anyone wanting something to eat. Live sport is shown for those who come to watch, and a function room is available for events. Dogs are welcome. The house rules rule out anti-social behaviour, drug use and drunkenness.

Customer Review Summary

Guinness is the draw reviewers raise most, with several calling it the best pint in Coventry and one placing it above any they have had in England or Ireland. Some travel specifically for it, and one credits the landlord for how it is served. Close behind are the friendly bar staff and welcoming crowd, described as good Irish hospitality in an old school local. The filled rolls, known as batches, are called delicious and great, though one reviewer finds them slightly less good on Sundays and blames the local baker. Another praises the function room as spotless, with staff who worked hard for their guests. The one clear complaint comes from a visitor from West Yorkshire, who parked in the signed disabled space outside, which they say belongs to the owner, and felt they were given no safe alternative but to move the car. Another reviewer says that once inside, it is very hard to leave.

  • Dave Brennan
“The best Guinness I have tasted anywhere in England (and in Ireland in a lot of cases). Fantastic value for money too! Excellent staff and very friendly customers. Proper Coventry establishment 10/10.”
  • Nicola Newman
“The top local, cannot be beaten for good Irish hospitality, clean taps and an exquisite pint of Guinness. This is not a gastro pub, but the filled rolls (batches if you want to appear local) are great Mon to Sat, slightly less amazing on Sunday but that due to the local baker, not the pub.”
