About The Old Windmill
The Old Windmill is a pub in Coventry on Spon St, billed as the oldest in the city, dating back to 1451 and virtually unchanged. The building has several separate rooms with nooks to sit in, plus fireplaces to sit in front of. The bar pours a wide range of ales, beers, ciders, wines, spirits and gins, and CAMRA named it Coventry Pub of the Year in 2015 and 2017. Food is served cold, with no chips, and centres on pork pies as bar snacks, cheese boards and a ploughman's sharer. The regular events include live music, a book club, beer festivals and cheese nights. The pub is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to this medieval pub most for its real ale and cider, with ales, stouts and Old Peculiar named alongside a wide spread of wines, gins and spirits. Close behind are the pork pies and cheese boards, including a ploughman's sharer and a Cranberry Wensleydale, and the Cheese Night that some say brought them back repeatedly. Many praise the little nooks and separate rooms, the fireplaces and the friendly staff who advise on drinks, plus a pub cat that makes his presence known. Events such as live music, a book club and beer festivals add to a community feel. The caveats concern food and fit. One reviewer received a sausage roll cold, in a packet and without a plate, another notes that only cold food is served and there are no chips, and one tall visitor found the ceiling close to his head and the old-fashioned décor not for everyone. Even so, one reviewer calls the cheese and pork pie pairing with a local stout enough to outweigh the missing chips.

“We first stumbled across The Old Windmill’s Cheese Night about 18 months ago, and loved it so much we’ve been back plenty of times since—usually with a different group of friends in tow. It’s a proper old medieval pub, full of cosy little nooks and crannies at the front where you can tuck yourself away and relax for a while. The drinks are spot on too: proper beer, a great range of wines and spirits, and some really good bar snacks—think pork pies and cracking cheese boards. There’s always something going on, and it’s got a genuinely warm, community feel that you don’t find everywhere these days. I just wish there were more places like it. Oh—and the cat’s a star. Murphy is very cute and always up for a bit of fuss.”

Friendly staff, welcoming and able to advise about the choice of drinks available. If you want a historical gem of a pub, this is the place for you.”
