About The Cricketers
Opposite the village green and cricket pitch at Eight Ash Green, The Cricketers is a family-run pub on Spring Ln in Colchester. An outdoor kitchen turns out wood-fired pizzas, and the kitchen also serves a pie of the day, such as chicken, mushroom and ham, with veg, mash and gravy. Hawkstone is on tap alongside a variety of other beers. A log burner heats the pub through the colder months. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the pie of the day, with chicken, mushroom and ham and steak and ale both called tasty and generously portioned. Close behind are other home cooked mains such as salmon, fish and chips, halloumi salad and liver and bacon, plus tiramisu and a loaded dessert platter. The beer garden earns repeated praise, and one visitor singles out wood-fired pizzas from the outdoor kitchen and Hawkstone on tap. Staff are described as friendly and polite. Complaints centre on meat and value: a medium rare ribeye came tough and gristly, Sunday roast beef was thick and tough, and one table found the broccoli hard and the meal nothing special for the price. Another visitor found only one toilet working during refurbishment, with no notice and a door that would not lock. Taking orders was slow at a busy lunch, so one couple ordered at the bar.

“I went to the Cricketers last weekend to visit friends. I hadn't realised they now have an outdoor kitchen, doing fantastic homemade pizzas from their wood-fired oven. I had only gone for drinks but couldn't resist the pizza when I saw the setup. It's also great to see the variety of beers available, especially now they have Hawkstone on tap. I'd highly recommend a visit, especially if you and your friends want a great beer garden with the option of food as well.”

“Visited here yesterday with friends . Meal ok broccoli spears bit hard salmon done nice but nothing special for price the men had Sunday roasts but again nothing special the beef was thickly cut and tough apparently. service was excellent by waitresses. But the toilets ladies ones 2 were out of bounds as obviously having a re furbisment only 1toilet working. No notice of that at all. The only one working you could t lock door. Very. Bad. Very mindful though about hospitality being very tough it was quiet. But I have been elsewhere eaten for less. I wouldn't return in a hurry.”

“Lovely lunch with friends yesterday, all ordered different mains, salmon, halloumi salad, omelette and liver and bacon, managed to squeeze in desserts as well, the tiramisu and the loaded dessert platter, everyone cleared their plates and said how tasty it was, staff were friendly, the only slight problem is the flies, I know they’re trying hard but they were noticeable. Thanks everyone it was lovely ☺️”
