About Milkwood

Milkwood is a Welsh restaurant at 83 Pontcanna St in Pontcanna, Cardiff, next to a park. The kitchen serves a Welsh breakfast of bacon, cockles and laverbread on toast with poached eggs, which puts traditional Welsh ingredients on a single plate. Alongside it, the menu includes a Bhaji Bap and waffles, and specials that are not on the menu, such as burritos, have also come out of the kitchen. Coffee drinks, including mocha, pair with the breakfast dishes, and a cocktail list sits next to them. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast is the draw at Milkwood, and the Milkwood Breakfast leads the praise, with one diner calling the poached eggs the best they have had and another finding it generous and full of flavour. Waffles come close behind, with fruit or as chicken and waffles with maple syrup, and one reviewer likes that they are not too sweet. The Breakfast Bap, Bhaji Bap and a breakfast bun with well seasoned meat also earn mentions, as does a Welsh breakfast of bacon, cockles and laverbread on toast with poached eggs, which one diner found so filling they could not finish it. Coffee and a mocha are described as good, and the staff are called friendly and efficient. The recurring caveat is demand. Reviewers note the place is busy even on weekdays, several suggest booking, and one says it is worth the wait. One visitor was not told about off-menu specials such as burritos and wished they had been. A Canadian diner would have liked real maple syrup with the waffles.

“Very cozy and quaint place for breakfast in Cardiff. Ordered the breakfast bun and a coffee. The bun’s meat was cooked perfectly and both the egg and meat were well seasoned. It was very enjoyable to eat and packed with flavour. The coffee was good as well. I was not aware of the specials that were not on the menu and I wish I had been told, otherwise I would have ordered the burritos they were serving that day that looked great too. For what I saw, everything looked great. Relaxed and local atmosphere with a friendly service. Recommended if you are in the area.”
