About The Head of Steam Cardiff
The Head of Steam Cardiff is a pub at 18-19 Church St in Cardiff, built around a large beer selection that spans cask, keg and can. The range takes in craft and micro beers alongside ciders and lagers, and the staff give recommendations to help drinkers choose from it. The kitchen serves pub food, with gourmet burgers, gyros and pizza on the menu. Live music plays on some days, and customers are told about it before they order. The pub also hosts work events, meetings and Christmas parties, with customisable packages for each. The venue is spacious.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the beer range, describing an extensive, even huge, selection of craft and micro market beers, cask, keg and can options, and plenty of ciders, with staff who offer knowledgeable recommendations. Close behind is the food, with gourmet burgers, chilli loaded fries and gourmet pub grub called delicious, plentiful and quick even when the pub was busy. Several mention a menu of pizza, gyros and different loaded fries. Service draws repeated praise as friendly and accommodating, and a few groups describe using the venue for a work Christmas party, a team away day and an area meeting, saying nothing was too much trouble. Live music is noted as not intrusive while eating, with one reviewer saying they were warned about it before ordering. The complaints are specific: one diner found the chips on the greasy side, and one called the beer poor and the pint overpriced, describing the bar staff as odd and mocking. One reviewer shared that the menu changed the day after their visit and was mostly burgers, leaving the vegetarian options unclear.

“Had come in today after enjoying Cardiff and shopping for a bit. Was served by Joward at the bar, who was very warm and welcoming. We were also served by Charlotte who provided excellent service and made sure we were satisfied with everything. Would definitely recommend and I will 100% be visiting again!!!🥂”

“All face no substance. Over priced, poor beer. Most expensive and least enjoyable pint of the day. Odd, mocking bar staff. Won't be returning. There are far better places to drink in a small radius of Cardiff centre.”

“We hired The Head of Steam for our work Christmas party, and Woody and the entire team were an absolute pleasure to work with. Nothing was too much trouble, and the service throughout the evening was exceptional. The food and drinks were excellent and very well received by all our guests. We were able to customise the package to suit our needs perfectly, and the event ran smoothly from start to finish. I’ve received lots of positive feedback from colleagues. Highly recommended, and we would definitely book again!”

“Amazing food. Such good gourmet pub grub. And arrived quick considering the pub was so busy. Great bar and service too. Good beer recommendations when the selection was HUGE. Thanks Emily for the help.”
