About Temple Bar Cardiff

Temple Bar Cardiff is an Irish pub at 6 High St in Cardiff, where live music is part of the programme. The main draw is an Irish session of trad, Americana and rock covers that finishes with Black Velvet Band. Guinness is on offer, and Guinness signs run through an Irish-bar theme. Screens show sport, with motor racing among the broadcasts. The drinks list features premium beers in place of Fosters, and cocktails come as 2 for 1. The bar also stocks a selection of Irish crisps.

Customer Review Summary

Guinness is the most frequent draw, described as good and, by one reviewer, possibly the best in Cardiff. Live music comes close behind, especially the Wednesday Irish session, called glorious, fun and varied, with trad, Americana and rock covers and a Black Velvet Band finale. Reviewers also praise the friendly landlord and bar staff, the spacious seating, the outdoor tables with heaters and the 2 for 1 cocktails. Food gets a lukewarm response. One reviewer says it isn't special, and another calls the pie okay but not worth its cost after ordering the Moo Mothership. The main complaints concern authenticity and atmosphere. A few say the pub is Irish in theme only, with Guinness signs but young, unsociable staff, and one found it cold and unfriendly. Another says the Fosters was removed in favour of pricier premium beers and the place has emptied. One reviewer wanted the All Ireland final between Mayo and Kerry and was told Gaelic Games are not shown, with motor racing on the screens instead.

“Beer was cold. Service good. Music great. Pie is ok but not worth what it costs. Had the Moo Mothership.”

“Very odd that this self-styled Irish Bar refused to put the All Ireland final between Mayo and Kerry on any of their screens! Apparently policy not to show Gaelic Games - motor racing on instead and who ever wants to watch that!! Went to the City Arms instead where staff were more than happy to switch screens so we could watch Mayo lift the curse.”

“This place used to sell Fosters for £3 a pint. It went up to £3.50, okay that's still a very good price for a City centre pub. The they took the Fosters out and you're left with Premiun beers for £6.50 a pint. The place is now empty! What do you expect? They theme it as an Irish bar but putting up a few Guinness signs doesn't make it Irish. None of the staff are Irish, they're just young unsociable people!”

“Good vibes and good Guinness. Lots of outdoor seating with heaters.”
  • Dawn Walsh
“Loved the 2 for 1 cocktails and they were so welcoming and friendly”
