About Duke Of Wellington
The Duke of Wellington is a pub in Cardiff on The Hayes, established in 1882 and housed in the red brick former Post Office building. Brains beer is on tap, and the food menu includes fish and chips. Customers order food and drink through an app rather than at the bar. Magic mirrors on the walls turn into TVs, so sport can be watched while you drink. The pub also welcomes dogs.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers settle on the outdoor terrace, a sun trap for people watching with a cold pint while buskers pass by. Beer is close behind, with several pointing to Brains on tap and lots of other draught choices. Food draws steady approval too: crispy, hot fish and chips, chips and macaroni and cheese bites, a pub chicken tikka that arrived fast, and scampi and chips. One diner found the fish fine but not a favourite. Bar staff are repeatedly described as friendly and helpful, including one team who helped a couple navigate the food and drink ordering app. The main complaint comes from a birthday visit planned around an advertised Thursday steak night. The bar said the steak had run out early in the evening despite the chalkboard offer, and the response felt unhelpful. The same reviewer found drinks pricier than expected. Another visitor notes that tables are few and far between. One couple spent a Saturday afternoon watching the six nations on the magic mirrors that turn into TVs.

“Review We visited on a Thursday evening specifically because of the advertised steak night/25% steak offer. It was part of my birthday evening before the Anastacia concert and my partner had brought me here so I could have steak for my birthday meal. We arrived at about 6:30 pm, but when my partner went to order, the young man at the bar seemed not to understand what he meant about the steak offer, despite it being advertised on the chalkboard, and then simply said they had completely run out of steak. This was only around 6:40 pm, which was very disappointing for a pub advertising a Thursday steak night. I ended up having the scampi and chips instead, which I have to say were very nice. Drinks were also much more expensive than we expected — over £9 for a small bottle of Prosecco and around £7 for a pint of Moretti. The food I eventually had was good, but the reason we chose to come here was for the advertised steak deal, so the lack of steak so early in the evening and the rather unhelpful response really took the shine off what was meant to be my birthday meal.”

“Great terrace, good beer, and good service. The chips and the macaroni and cheese bites were delicious. Fish was fine but not my favourite. Great location for people watching and for buskers.”

“A great pub and a perfect spot if you're in the centre of town! The atmosphere was brilliant from the moment we walked in, the team were friendly and helpful, and the service was spot on throughout. The drinks selection is impressive — even serving Brains beer, which is always a plus and hard to find nowadays! The outside area is a great little sun trap to sit and watch the world go by. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!”
