Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most for the views over the channel, which come up in nearly every review, with the staff close behind as friendly and welcoming, including biscuits and water for visiting dogs. Among dishes, the prawn cocktail with fries, the sweetcorn fritters, the salmon and pie, and puddings such as lime cheesecake and salted caramel ice cream earn praise, and one reviewer found the coffee very good. The food draws mixed reactions. The Sunday roast is called good for the value by one and just ordinary by another, while the teriyaki beef was incredibly salty, a steak was more gristle than meat, and a burger and chicken wings were dry. One detailed account describes lukewarm roast belly pork with a cold plate, missing pigs in blankets and cabbage, and a waitress who walked off during a complaint. Another waited 35 minutes for five drinks, asking three times, and felt the pub needs more servers. A group of loud customers also upset other diners at one table. Several mention the big car park.

“Went there on 25/10 - 2pm sitting for 4 adults and 1 child. Paid just under £130 for 1 round of drinks, 3 belly pork roasts and one 3 meat roast and one children's menu dishes. It was appalling. Food was lukewarm & the plate cold. Vegetables and other food items that should have come automatically with the dish were missing e.g. pigs in blankets, cabbage etc. The slice of stuffing on my son's meal had been deep fat fried and was as hard as concrete . The Belly pork was just a slightly thicker slice of bacon. It was so fatty and cooked to a frazzle - totally uneatable. When the waitress came over to ask if everything was OK, when I started to complain she turned around and walked off! When she returned to clear the table I asked her what was the kitchens reaction to my comments were and she replied "what ... ?" Her excuse later was because it was so loud she couldn't hear me. She did return a little later and said the kitchen sent its apologies. Having sat there a little while and no attempt was made to offer us the deserts menu I asked for the bill - £129.85 On leaving the premises a female stood by the entrance desk, said "thank you" to me - which I took to be a sarcastic remark so I told her the meal was appalling. She then run up behind me and asked what I meant - I told her to go and ask the waitress. I will never go there again or recommend anyone eat there. The whole experience was shambolic and I most definitely did not appreciate being rushed at by a member of staff on leaving the building. As a disabled person who uses a walking cane, she almost made me lose my balance. I expect she thought we were leaving without paying. WHICH WE WERE NOT.”

“Fabulous views over the channel. Lovely waitress, Hannah, was very pleasant and chatty. 2 dishes were fine - the salmon and the pie - but my teriyaki beef was incredibly salty and I couldn’t finish it. But on the whole the food is normally pretty good.”

“Friendly, welcoming and efficient staff. Great parking! Excellent food. Clean, well maintained toilets. Fabulous views! We booked a table and asked for seating with a view which we got. We had drinks and coffee which bumped up the price. Food was good value. Worth looking at for a visit. One con was the freezing aircon!”

“Really great staff here, everyone who served us was good. Had a Sunday roast. Food was ok but not winning any awards, just ordinary. Puds good. Friendly place suitable for all age groups and group size. Big car park.”
