Customer Review Summary

The upstairs theatre is what reviewers raise most, with one visitor ending up there after a drink and another praising a stand up comedy show. Access is through a door next to the pub. Downstairs, reviewers describe friendly, helpful staff, a nice beer garden, comfortable seating, a dog friendly welcome, pizzas and food they call good value. The Sunday roast sits close behind and splits opinion. One reviewer enjoyed a roast, but a party of three found theirs lukewarm and then cold, with overcooked roast potatoes and parsnip and a soggy Yorkshire. Another said everything tasted of nothing and felt the bar staff were distracted, all taking turns holding a friend's baby while customers waited at the bar. One play was called amateur, with awkward acting and technical issues. On a very hot day, one visitor found two bartenders coping with broken coolers and no beer, and no manager on shift. Reviewers also mention that food bills get a discount for anyone going up to the theatre.

“The Alma is a real Bristol treasure. The pub is lovely, the food is excellent and the service is always cheerful and helpful. As a bonus, your food bill gets a 25% discount if you're going to the upstairs (air conditioned) theatre. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.”

“Fantastic pub. Really lovely friendly helpful staff. Food was delicious and good value for money. And it's dog friendly! We will definitely visit again on our next trip to Bristol”

“This seems like a very cute local pub. Unfortunately the play we came to see was just so terrible - the script seemed like it was written by generative AI, the acting was very awkward and there were technical issues. It felt extremely amateur and I sensed the audience generally agreed on this. It would have been good to know this was really just local community theatre akin to a school play, rather than what you might see at the Wardrobe or similar (actually entertaining and better value for money!).”

“Staff were absolutely amazing. Just two young girl bartenders working alone on the hottest day I’ve experienced in the UK. Tried to talk to a manager to give my props but apparently there were none on shift. I’ve worked hospitality for 10 years. How a shift can be run on a day like this with no management is disgusting and they should be ashamed of themselves. The two of them were struggling with broken coolers no beer and demanding customers. They conducted themselves well but if I owned this bar I’d be embarrassed.”
