About The Windmill Brighton
The Windmill Brighton is a pub at 69 Upper N St in Brighton, run with a bistro approach to food and a terrace under a fully covered pergola. Rotating pop-up kitchens supply the food, with Alberta's and Tony's Pizza among the collaborations. The Tony's menu includes pizzas and arancini, among them a mushroom & mascarpone pizza. The roast comes in beef and veggie versions, served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, vegetables and creamy leeks, and extra gravy arrives on the side. Cauliflower cheese and mac and cheese are offered as sides. The bar pours beers and cider, and one night of the programme brings a DJ playing motown, soul and funk.

Customer Review Summary
The roast is what reviewers mention most, and they split sharply on it. Fans praise the beef, pickles and cauliflower cheese, gravy served on the side, and a deep fried roast with all the trimmings, while one diner calls the veggie roast's celeriac smoky and delicious. Close behind, the pizza collab draws praise for a mushroom and mascarpone pizza and an arancini, and one reviewer rates the chicken sandwich among the best in Brighton. Others say the roast fell short. One describes a roast beef with a quartered carrot, a sliver of leek, four small potatoes and a tiny Yorkshire pudding, with mains priced higher than at booking, and a vegetarian pie with a solid lid. Another found the porchetta and chicken roast greasy, served on a metal tray with canned-looking mac and cheese, and a third got lukewarm food with gravy running off a pizza plate. Several call the food and drinks pricey, and a few suggest booking ahead. Staff were described as friendly, and one team apologised and took feedback on their new menu.

“I visited this pub recently for their Bonsai pop up. The area we sat in was cozy. The service was extremely fast. The staff was friendly and the food was tasty.”

“Very hipster-esque pub that always seems to be busy on the weekend. A great DJ on 5 June playing motown, soul and funk. Good selection of beers and cider (Orbit!) at the bar.”

“📍 @windmillbrighton x @wearetonyspizza Finallyyy got to try this collab and when I tell you we were HUNRY and this was SO yummy! 📸 • one fat arancini to share (could’ve easily had 10 but they were £10 a piece) • mushroom & mascarpone pizza. yes. get this. • Tony’s fav. Classic. Loved that alterations can be made to your pizza to cater for more people at no extra cost. Also first visit at the windmill which was busy so would rec booking!”

“My partner and I visited to try Tony’s roast after seeing it on social media, we were firstly quite disappointed by where we were sat, right in the back and it was extremely dark. We ordered a Porchetta and a Chicken roast and were very disappointed as soon as it arrived at our table, it was served on a large metal tray, which was giving prison, the mac and cheese looks straight out of a can and the gravy was extremely greasy. The whole meal was too greasy to eat and extremely disappointing, we were also not asked how are food was during or after the meal. I never write reviews but I saw the hype on social media and wanted to give it a go, would not recommend.”

“I went to The Windmill for the first time to try the roast after seeing it advertised on Instagram. I got the veggie roast, which I will say tasted amazing, but it didn’t quite live up to the pic on the gram! You only get one piece of celeriac instead of the two advertised and I thought it would come with mac and cheese on the plate like in the pic, but that’s a £5 extra. The celeriac tasted delicious and smoky and the veggies and yorkie were great, so I’ll give them that. The mac n cheese was also super yummy, but sadly it came out quite late and so we didn't get to enjoy it till the end. I would say serving it on a pizza plate felt like a strange choice, especially as the gravy was pouring off the plate onto my partner while it was being served to us, lol. The food also wasn’t hot, which was a shame. Overall, I’d give it a solid 6/10. If the service had been quicker and the food hot and served on a different plate, it would have definitely been an 8.”
