About The Walrus
The Walrus is a pub in Brighton at 10 Ship St, laid out as a labyrinth of winding passageways across multiple floors, with a two-storey roof garden. Downstairs holds a bar and dining room, and the roof garden is used for watching sports. The kitchen runs roasts on two days. Sunday brings chicken or pork belly served with Yorkshire pudding, and Monday has a beef roast. The cocktail list includes a Flat White Martini, and a cocktail and food pairing night is held as an event. The pub suits larger groups and birthday parties, and it opens daily. Dogs are allowed inside.

Customer Review Summary
Roast dinners draw the most praise at this Lanes pub, from a chicken Sunday roast to a pork belly with Yorkshire pudding that one reviewer calls the best they have eaten out, plus a plentiful Monday beef roast. Close behind are the drinks, with flat white martinis recommended, a good selection of beers, and a cocktail and food pairing night described as superb value. Others single out the flat iron steak and garlic prawns. Service is repeatedly called friendly and attentive. Reviewers like the cool downstairs, the classy upstairs and the roof garden, though one notes the roof garden gets very hot in summer. Several mention dogs being welcome inside. Portions are large enough that a few could not finish their courses. The main criticism comes from one reviewer who describes a long wait for food, a rubbery, cold halloumi burger, dry chicken in a caesar salad and a sticky toffee pudding closer to dry cake. Another says drinks run on the pricier end. One birthday party reports clean plates all round.

“Came here with a friend who is a regular patron. So, expectations were high and The Walrus did not disappoint. Dog friendly, so a little cockapoo could chill. Food was good quality (I had flat iron steak with chips, and garlic prawns), at a reasonable price. When you have food that good, the money doesn't matter. Staff were helpful and attentive. Considering the size of the place, that's pretty impressive.”

“Really enjoyed our roast and a few pints here today. Service was great and the food was excellent. Really good selection of beers to top it off too”

“Really nice pub, spent the whole evening here, it has a nice atmosphere. The drinks are on the pricier end so expect to pay nearly £7 for a pint. The roof garden is nice, it can get very hot in the summer up there but great for sports. The groundfloor bar also has AC which gets bonus points from me”

“The roast at The Walrus was recommended to me and they did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel comfortable and welcome. We were shown to a lovely table in the dining room which was beautiful and the atmosphere was delightful. We had Flat White Martini's to drink (definitely recommend) and a delicious chicken Sunday Roast each. The service was great. Definitely recommend and hope to be back soon.”

“Visited on Monday evening with our small dog 🐶 who was made very welcome. There don’t seem to be many dog friendly eating places in Brighton that allow dogs inside. I had beef from the Monday roast menu, it was plentiful and delicious, the service was very good and there is a nice atmosphere in this pub”
