  “I am extremely disappointed with my experience at East Street Tap, Brighton. At around 01:10 on Sunday the 19th of July 2026. Me and my friend were looking for a night out in Brighton. We saw that a lot of customers were entering the East Street Tap. Therefore, we approached the venue with intentions to enter. We spoke to a black member of security at the venue asking if it was busy. He advised it was busy. However, mentioned the venue was free entry and acknowledged our interest. A white male security (called by the name Robin, head doorman). Looked at us up and down advising the venue is too busy. Seeing his reaction we then went away and watched to see if there was any discrimination at hand. To our surprise, a group of 7 white customers were allowed in and then another 2. We approached the venue again stating our concerns of other customers being allowed in. He then advised again that it is busy. I asked him if he is being racist. Robin then laughed and walked into the venue. After a few moments Robin came back out and asked us why we wanted to come in. As fellow SIA licence holders. We were astonished to be asked such questions. Imagine asking every customer why they would like to enter an establishment. We were dressed smart and in line with the venues dress code. Along with ID to hand if requested. Not intoxicated and well mannered. If this issue is not addressed immediately. We will have no choice but to relay our experience to local media outlets. I hope to receive a response at your earliest convenience. Kind regards”

  “What a great pub with a great summer atmosphere. The owner was a superb host and handled a large crowd single handed. Great quality beer and top notch service. We will definitely visit here again, what a lovely afternoon.”

  “Sat with my friends outside after paying almost £15 for two pints and a seagull comes along and poops in our drinks, kindly asked the bar manager if he could replace them as they were hardly touched and he was extremely rude, told us it was our fault for sitting outside and didn't even apologise for the mishap or offer any sympathy. Absolutely unfair and ridiculous. As a bartender myself i would have absolutely replaced the pints as i know it wasn't the customers fault. Terrible management and rude service.”

  “Unfortunately not a good experience here. Firstly, the place had a very distinctive aroma that was not pleasent. A smell of urine and sweat is the best way I can describe it. Not a surprise when the toilet door is held open and the place was very humid and warm. The floors were also quite sticky as if they hadn't been cleaned in a while. To be fair for a small pub in Brighton that's pretty common. Me and a group of friends went here as it was quieter than basically anywhere on a Saturday night. When we got there I got myself and my friend a cider each. We went upstairs and everyone sat up there for about 30min and once we had finished our drinks, he asked if I wanted one and of course I said sure. He goes to get one and comes back saying they are requiring ID. I did not bring ID as I haven't been ID'd in over 4 years, I don't look young by any metric, and to be honest I wasn't massively fussed if I had alcahol that night. I just thought if they asked and would not accept a photo of my ID then I would just have cola, it didn't bother me. I'm fully aware without ID they have the right to refuse to serve and I have no issue with that and I'm all for being strict to stop underage drinking. What I have a problem with is being served, finishing my drink then being ID'd after the fact, and then having one of my friends being told we will all be kicked out if I have a drink. It sort of felt like they suddenly had a grudge against the group. It's not like we were being loud or obnoxious so I don't know what their problem was. Not the smartest interaction in the world. At least the event gave us something to laugh about for the rest of the evening. Probably doesn't need to be said but I won't be coming back here.”

  “Nice Pub located right in Downtown Brighton. Low ceiling and sticky floor inside which makes the experience „interesting“. Staff was friendly and outside are benches as well to sit down.”

  “Tried the new hot dogs - I had a "sexy mushroom" and cheesy chips. Tasted great but in retrospect I wish I'd gone for the extra dog because it was quite thin and gone too quick!”

  “Was asked to leave a 5 star review for a free pint, which I never got anyway, so thought I'd leave an honest review. Good selection on the menu and the flavour combinations really work. I had the Chilli Dog. The others had the Mushroom Dog and the Embers Special Dog. We ordered sides of Slaw and Cheesy Chips to share. It was nice, but far from amazing. I love what they're trying to do here but the sausage is far too small. I know you can pay extra to add another sausage, but at nearly £10 a pop, the 3 of us agreed we would expect a lot more meat in the sausage to bun ratio, making the whole thing a bit expensive for what it is. Also I really can't understand why the guys at Filthy Dog have chosen this venue to work out of. The tables were filthy and full of empty glasses and empty food wrappers. There were more staff than punters when we went in. I asked the guy behind the bar with the tattoos and baseball cap on how the first weekend had been going for them, and he couldn't have seemed less interested and shrugged his shoulders. Also hitting the dirty glasses loudly with a spoon over and over and over again was very annoying. If I was depending on the staff at EST to be promoting my product, then I'd be massively disappointed. Wouldn't rush back to have the hotdogs, at least not at this venue anyway.”

  “Had a great meal here, bar staff are friendly and chatty, and service is quick and accommodating. Loads of vegan options for hot dogs and fries as well as beers so I felt really accommodated! Would definitely recommend.”
