About The Dancing Jug (Bournemouth)
The Dancing Jug is a bar at 15-17 Poole Hill in Bournemouth, with a downstairs garden that has a railway-arch feel and private grottos in winter, used for large groups and parties. A narrow, small entrance leads into a larger interior with several seating areas. The kitchen serves pub grub, including a roast and chicken and chorizo skewers. Cocktails run alongside the food, with 2-4-1 offers and a happy hour. Bottomless brunch lasts 2.5 hours with a DJ playing, and the drinks come in jugs, with refills requested at the bar. Brunch is by reservation, and payment is required on arrival.

Customer Review Summary
Bottomless brunch is what reviewers discuss most, and opinion splits sharply. Positive reviews describe great food, cocktails and a DJ, with the chicken and chorizo skewers singled out, and servers who went out of their way. Others report drinks with little alcohol, five jugs shared between four people, and repeatedly walking to the bar for refills or being refused more before the session ended. One group arrived to a missing booking and a drink that came late, another found the door locked and the lights off at their reserved time with no cancellation notice, and a third was given one bottle of prosecco between eleven people in a dark downstairs area, with the venue described as understaffed. Outside brunch, diners praise the roast, the brownie and cheesecake, happy hour and 241 cocktails, and the garden seating for large groups. One reviewer who uses a stick found the accessible toilet used as a storeroom, with no pull cord.

“I have visited The Dancing Jug a couple of times previously and have always experienced good service and a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was extremely disappointing and has completely changed my opinion of the venue. We booked the 2.5 hour bottomless brunch but honestly wanted to leave after the first hour. As payment was required on arrival, we felt we had no choice but to stay in an attempt to get some value for the money we had already spent. The food was perfectly acceptable; however, the drinks were incredibly disappointing. They appeared to contain little to no alcohol, and we left feeling just as sober as when we arrived. That completely defeats the purpose of paying for a bottomless brunch. The service was also extremely poor. Rather than staff checking on our table or proactively offering refills, we repeatedly had to leave our table and go to the bar ourselves to ask for more drinks. This significantly impacted the experience and meant we spent unnecessary time waiting instead of enjoying our brunch. The cleanliness of the venue was equally concerning. The toilets were in a disgusting state, with a toilet roll balanced on top of a bin and several others left on the dirty floor. This gave a very poor impression and suggested a lack of basic hygiene and maintenance. Overall, what should have been an enjoyable afternoon turned into a very disappointing experience. Having previously enjoyed visiting this venue, it’s a shame to see such a noticeable decline in both service and standards. Sadly, this was a complete waste of money, and based on this experience, I would not recommend it and would advise others to avoid it.”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely the best barmaid ever! She's always so welcoming, friendly, and makes everyone feel at home. The service is outstanding, she's quick, attentive, and always has a smile on her face. On top of that, she's absolutely beautiful, which is just a bonus to such an amazing personality. Every visit is a great experience thanks to her. Couldn't recommend this place enough! Gorgie is the top don🤩”

“We had a bottomless brunch reservation booked for 7:15pm. As we were walking down the road at 7:05pm, we saw a worker locking the door, get in his car and drive away. We looked in and could see all lights were turned off. We waited for 20 minutes outside to see if the staff would be returning and nobody arrived. A few other members of the public turned up with reservations and had the same issue as us. This reservation was for a friend’s birthday so we were gutted to see the place closed without any cancellation from the team. What is normally a lovely place to visit with a good atmosphere, we were left disappointed. Website and Google state the bar should be open until 12:30am on a Monday night. We would have appreciated a notice on the door or an email for cancellation”

“I would rate this with zero stars if it were possible. We were seated downstairs, outside, right next to a leaking soil pipe. The bench was wet when we arrived, wiped with tissue for it to be soaked again a few minutes later. We were given one bottle of prosecco between 11 people, with no glasses. We had to go back upstairs to get our own glasses. These were plastic and looked like they had not been washed. No other drinks were offered. The downstairs area is dark, dingy and mouldy. No other tables were available so we had no choice but to leave and make alternative last minute arrangements for a 21st birthday celebration. The server was run ragged and although she was polite, it was very clear that she was stressed and the establishment severely understaffed.”
