Customer Review Summary
The recurring complaint is bland or inconsistent cooking. Fish and chips is called oily and lacking in flavour, with even the peas tasting of nothing. One Sunday lunch had yellowed broccoli and a lamb chop that was all fat. A roast dinner arrived lukewarm without its Yorkshire pudding until asked, and a king prawn tempura starter turned out to be a shaped prawn mixture and arrived late. Several say the pub has gone downhill. One parent noted a child's menu but no children's cutlery, and a few mention the pudding or a pint of Fursty Ferret as highlights.

“Went for birthday meal 31 st August. Ordered a king prawn tempura starter. Mine was forgotten, so had to go back to the bar and ask where it was whilst everyone else had almost finished theirs. Bad start. There were no king prawns - it is misleading - it is manipulated mashed prawn type bits shaped like a fish finger. It was not horrible - but it was not king prawn tempura. I hate being menu misled like this. I had Cajun chicken & chips for main. Chicken was ok but a bit dry. The chips were awful - scrag/bitsy ends mostly. My daughters looked great though - so there was a lot of inconsistency even at our table. Pudding was lush and the best thing of my experience. Would not go back. Not worth the money - no love put into the good whatsoever- just sad & mediocre at best.”

“As we have just moved into the area my partner and i decided to pop in and have roast dinner, Apart from it being fully booked, we were put down the back in a corner. table was filthy and we had to sit and wait for it to be cleaned . No cutlery out. I then asked to be moved, which they happily did. We ordered our roast dinner and I can honestly say it was probably the worst I’ve ever had. bland, tasteless and cheap produce. Yorkshire pudding was missing. We had to ask for it, but the woman replied I’ll find out . the food was lukewarm. The service wasn’t great. It was almost like a school dinner or an old people’s home I’m undecided. I think it’s safe to say we won’t be returning and if we do, it would just be for drinks. But on the flip side they do accept blue light discount ( winner )”

“We stopped here for lunch. The food was good and really generous portions. The staff and service was absolutely excellent, shout out to Jean and Cassidy who made our experience here extra special with their kindness and attentiveness. If we didn’t live 300 miles away we would definitely be back!”

“We dine here regularly, and the staff are outstanding. Unfortunately, the quality of the food seems to be deteriorating. My Sunday lunch was mediocre. The broccoli was past its best (and a tad on the yellow side), and one of my lamb chops was nothing but fat. However, the staff are what make us return - they are attentive, lovely to talk to, and concerned to get it right.”

“I felt that the bearcross had gone down hill since my last visit. The food was okay but not special as it was last time and lack of care in the decorating of the loos with a lot of paint splashed onto the toilet roll holder and dado rail etc emphasised a general decline.”
