Customer Review Summary

Burgers are what family diners return for most, described as tasty and cooked perfectly, alongside children's meals several call excellent value. Other reviewers single out a mixed grill with flavourful meat, a sourdough sandwich with chips, and a crumble pie of good size. The large open garden, plentiful parking and a dog-friendly welcome come up repeatedly, and reviewers praise friendly, personal service from the owner and team, with the ale, cider and wine also getting good marks. Waiting is the other recurring note, with slow starters and mains on a busy evening and a slight delay attributed to staffing. Value draws the sharpest complaints. Two diners found portions small, one counting just ten chips with a spoonful of mushy peas on fish and chips, another describing a salmon fish cake with little salmon and a duck starter that was chewy and not sticky. A visit with no roasts, beef or crab available left a roast turkey without Yorkshire pudding or pigs in blanket. One diner's mixed grill steak arrived medium instead of rare, and the offer of extra chips did not answer the complaint.

“When arriving we were informed there was no roasts no beef no crab and a list of other things that were on the menu. I had steak pie which was ok ish my wife had roast turkey but had no Yorkshire pudding or pigs in blanket. My son had cod and chips which were fine. It wasn’t up to the usual standard. Slow service”

“Had a lovely family lunch at The Fox & Hounds today. We brought our two children and they both loved their meals, which were fantastic value for money. We both had burgers which were really tasty too. There is loads of parking, a beautiful open garden and the welcome from Steve and the team was so personal and friendly. It is great to find somewhere that makes families feel so welcome. We will definitely be returning!”

“Brilliant Sourdough sandwich x2 including chips. Had it before just getting better. Very dog friendly. Ale and cider very good including wines perhaps try Abbots next time old favourite of mine. We had pint of cider and large glass of white. Excellent value as well as quality. Less than £17 head in a cracking very well maintained establishment.”

“Very disappointed in the new menu, in summary food quality not good and portion sizes small. I had the sticky hoisin duck for starter, dish had very little hoisin sauce, was in no way sticky and the meat was overcooked to the point of being chewy and difficult to eat. For main I had sea Bream with proscutio, fillet size was very small, veg consisted of 1 1/2 asparagus spears and a mountain of overcooked saute potato's. My wife had butternut squash curry and added chicken but there were no butternut pieces and the chicken was very meagre although the sauce was tasty. All in all not worth the money and we'll take our custom elsewhere.”

“Excellent family lunch we will definitely be back! We visited The Fox & Hounds today with our two children and had such a lovely experience. The children's meals were excellent value for money and both children really enjoyed them, which is always a good sign! The adults both chose burgers, which were delicious and cooked perfectly. The service from Steve and the whole team was warm, friendly and genuinely personal, making us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. There is plenty of parking, which makes visiting really easy, and the large open gardens are perfect for families with children to relax and enjoy. A fantastic family-friendly pub with great food, excellent service and a lovely atmosphere. We are already looking forward to coming back again soon.”
