Customer Review Summary
The one critical account rates the service highly but finds the food mixed: a chicken ballotine that was very under seasoned, a cassoulet that was very over seasoned, a claggy and sour arancini, and a dessert with soggy pastry. That reviewer also found a mocktail steep because it was not on the menu, so the cost only became clear at payment, though the chips and bread were delicious. Several others have already booked again, including one for a Christmas meal.

“A lovely, unassuming restaurant/pub. The service was excellent but I found the food a little bit mixed. The chicken ballotine was very under seasoned whilst the cassoulet was very over seasoned. The arancini was claggy and sour and the starter for me was way too sharp with picalilly- the chips and bread were delicious, the dessert was a big disappointment- the pastry was very soggy and the crisp shell had completely dissolved from the top. Mocktail was nice but very steep at £10 a glass but as these are not on the menu- you don’t know until you pay. I’d go back hoping it was an off day as the staff are fantastic and I think there’s potential there with some tweaks. Maybe too much style over substance on this one.”

“The Spread Eagle by McLeod 9, just outside Bolton, was a real find. Intensely flavoured, delicious food, beautifully and creatively plated, with a fantastic atmosphere and wonderfully charismatic service. The prices are remarkably reasonable for the quality. We had a brilliant night. One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommended.”

“What can I say except fabulous all round. We were greeted with a smile and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food was beautifully cooked and presented with the same care and attention to detail. The decoration and style is simple but tasteful with a great deal of thought throughout. Parking is easy and accessible. Congratulations to everyone for a great culinary experience. We have already booked again.”
