About The Nook & Cranny Bromley Cross

The Nook & Cranny Bromley Cross is a pub in Bolton on Darwen Rd, serving rolling cask ales from a micro brewery. The taps sit on a subway-tiled bar, and the cask range is joined by a selection of bottled beers and ciders, along with a beer and gin selection. No food is served, so the offer is drinks only. Background music plays at a level that allows conversation, and dogs are welcome inside.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the beer, praising the rolling cask ale menu, ales from a micro brewery, bottled beers and ciders, and a gin selection, with one noting the selection has shrunk in recent years. Friendly staff and owners come up close behind, along with a sociable atmosphere where dogs and children are welcomed. Several say the volume allows easy conversation, and one mentions a live DJ playing an eclectic mix, while another found everyone shouting in a smallish space and could not hear any music. The same reviewer wanted more than two unisex toilets. The main complaint is inconsistent opening: one regular says that on four recent visits they were turned away, twice because of a private function and twice because of closing before 8pm, and the owner's reply disputed this. Reviewers also like the subway tiled bar with its taps and the outdoor space with ashtrays for smokers. One late afternoon visitor paired a drink with a trip to the chippy in the same block.

“No food but this is a decent tap albeit with a reduced selection of beers in the last few years.”

“A great venue for beer lovers and a sociable, friendly atmosphere”

“Great atmosphere, but it seemed like everyone was shouting when having conversations due to so many people being in a smallish space. I couldn't hear any music, which seemed weird to me while out having a drink. Plus, it would be better if there were more than 2 unisex toilets. Overall impression was great & I had a good night with friendly staff & customers”

“Really enjoyed going here however my view has changed significantly over the last couple of months The last four times I have been I have been turned away Either private function or closing twice before 8pm no consistency on opening hours, makes you question why you try to support local ×#Reply#× So clearly I'm lying then am I ? I was told by your manager that you were trying out opening during the week.(or has that now stopped) My review was honest and stated that I wanted to support you and I had enjoyed previous visits. Your reply only confirms my thoughts that you aren't consistent. I know I'm not the only person who feels like this, don't want to see another local pub decline.”
  • Jon Lowe
“The place is super friendly amongst both staff and customers Dogs and children are also welcomed. Background music played at just the right level so without you having to shout to each other. It’s such a great place I am prepared to spend £11 each way in an Uber to meet up with family and friends even though my local is 5 minutes walk away.”
