About The Bay Mare
The Bay Mare is a community pub in Astley Bridge, Bolton, on Blackburn Road. Its calendar includes a free jukebox night, a free pool night, a quiz night and a DJ night, with karaoke and disco nights as well. A fire burns in the bar area. Behind the bar, Otter Brewery cask ale sits alongside cider, Guinness and a range of lagers, while spirits, wines and cocktails fill out the drinks list. For games, there is a pool table, darts, fruit machines and dominoes, and football is shown on the television. The pub keeps a traditional character that has changed very little over the years. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly welcome, with the landlord described as sociable and easy with non locals, and a bartender called polite. Close behind are the pints, described as good, cold and reasonably priced, including a light, fruity Otter Brewery bitter, Cruzcampo and Guinness. Regulars also point to karaoke, pool, darts, quiz night, dominoes, football on the television and an excellent jukebox. One reviewer calls the decor fantastic, a mix of modern and traditional with a patterned carpet, and another says the pub has changed little in thirty years and is better for it. Criticism is milder but specific. One reviewer found the music deafening, the bass grating, and wanted more cask ales since only one was on. Another would have given five stars if the pool table did not charge per game. A New Year's Eve afternoon visit found the pub dead and in need of an upgrade, and one drinker felt something was lacking. One reviewer notes a bar worker spotting an empty glass and offering another drink.
