Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise friendly, helpful staff and the food, with several pairing a dog walk with lunch because dogs are welcome and can sit with them. Specific dishes named include Sunday lunches of beef and lamb, a shared platter, haddock goujons, a halloumi burger, and desserts like cheesecake, with one family noting a poached egg starter was accommodated for a child. The views over the reservoir get a mention too. One reviewer suggests booking ahead because the pub gets busy, though another was squeezed in on a packed Friday evening. The criticism is sharper and more detailed. One reviewer found the black bull burger tasteless and overcooked with soggy chunky chips, and called the place run down. Another found the cheese pie crumbly and flavourless and the halloumi squidgy in places, though the salt and pepper wings and rag pudding were fine. Even so, the staff were polite in both of those visits, and a table was ready on arrival for one lunch reservation.

“Just been for lunch after a walk in the area. Amazing food and even better service, despite it being busy. Both hosts were lovely and approachable. Perfect place for a family meal. The dog enjoyed it too!”

“A nice pub in Edgworth, Bolton. Plenty of parking at the back of the pub. The best thing about the pub are the views across Entwistle Reservoir. The food is good, its a new menu and I suspect a bew chef as the food has improved 100% since my last visit. This time I had hallumi burger with fries and salad garnish £16.95 and my partner had haddock goujons and fries with garlic and truffle oil £13.90. Which he thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately I forgot to take any photos. We'll definitely be going back in the evening sometime.”

“Got there at 12:45 and table was ready for our 13:00 reservation. Straight to the table and no problems where we had a drink first. Ordered two Sunday lunches one beef and one lamb, both were good size portions and really tasty. Had coffee and cheese cake after and this was also great. Staff great pub great and food great.”

“First visit today and first impressions very not good at all. The place is very run down, from the decor to the chairs you sit. This had me thinking leave straight away, and I wish I had. The girls serving were friendly enough and that was the only highlight. I ordered the black bull burger with chunky chips. The burger was tasteless and over cooked drowned in some sort of tasteless cheese. Yet somehow the fact that is was full of grease still couldn’t offer any flavour. The chunky chips were limp over cooked and soggy. I am sure there’s have been reheated. The price charged was something like £16 for a plate of food they should be embarrassed to charge a fiver for. I had two bites and pushed it aside feeling a k little queesy and guzzled the coke in an attempt to cleanse the grease. This raised no concerns from the staff when they cleared a full plate, clearly something they are used to. Do yourself and stomach a favour and avoid this place at all costs.”
