About The Hanging Gate
The Hanging Gate is a pub at 34 Ashbourne Rd in Belper, in a building that dates back almost 350 years and once had its own stables for travellers' horses. The kitchen serves a ribeye steak with beef dripping sauce and chips, and a Sunday roast is on the menu. Cask ales are poured at the bar. A two-course lunchtime menu is available for those who want a shorter meal. Dogs are welcome, with dog-friendly tables, free treats and a doggy bar menu that gives owners something to order for their pets. Inside, the large old building has an open fire.

Customer Review Summary
The ribeye draws the most praise, described as cooked perfectly and full of flavour, with a beef dripping sauce so liked that one couple ordered an extra pot each and more chips to soak it up. Close behind are a hearty Sunday roast, a filling burger with chips that were spot on, the bacon chop followed by mini puddings, and arancini packed full of flavour. One diner also singles out a Limoncello Spritz. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and on a busy Father's Day the food still arrived quickly. Reviewers describe a gorgeous old building that looks small from outside but is huge, with a cosy feel and a fire. The pub is very dog friendly, with free treats and a doggy bar menu. The only complaint is a small suggestion for a few more IPAs and pale ales. One birthday visit ended with a surprise dessert brought to the table.

“We love the food and high standards of the vast majority of Vintage Inns that we visit, and The Hanging Gate was no exception. We arrived late afternoon in our motorhome, wishing to eat and drink in the pub, and stopover in their car park for the night. As it was midweek, space was not an issue and Suzie, the manager, said not a problem. The car park is large, around 60 car parking spaces, and sloping but we managed to find a fairly level spot, and didn't need levelling ramps. The pub is very dog friendly, with free treats and a good choice of dog friendly tables. We both had the bacon chop meal, followed by the mini puddings and coffee, which we really enjoyed. There is a bus stop next to the the pub car park entrance, with a regular service to Belper, Matlock and Bakewell. Can't fault Suzie and her team - excellent service; all very friendly and attentive - so much so that we decided to stop for another day and evening meal! Highly recommended.”

“Good location off the main road with very large car park. Lovely pub, good reasonably priced food with a nice relaxed atmosphere. The tables were spotless and the staff are all lovely, I visited twice today. The wait time was no problem even though the pub was busy, even greater value with a massive 40% promotion off main meals today, highly recommended! Thanks girls!”

“Absolute Gem, lovely Pub, appears quite cute from the outside but don’t be fooled it’s huge, beautiful building, nice big outdoor seating area outside too…..We both had the Ribeye which was cooked to perfection, served with a smile and melts in your mouth, the beef dripping sauce is to die for, we love it that much we have to have an extra pot each and some more chips to soak it up. I love it can’t wait to come back”
