Customer Review Summary

Sunday lunch is the most frequent draw at The Plough, with reviewers praising the beef roast and the hake, one calling the hake the best they have had, and the sticky toffee pudding also earning a mention. Close behind are the dinner dishes diners name: the monkfish with parsley sauce, scallops, pork cheeks and whole lemon sole. One reviewer says the pesto with bread is worth the visit alone, and another points to the Plough Summer Cup as a refreshing drink. Service is described repeatedly as attentive, friendly and welcoming, and several celebrate anniversaries and birthdays here, including a chocolate plate with a birthday message. Some find it pricey, though most feel the quality justifies it. Desserts drew the only real complaints: a blood orange souffle came out wet in the middle and very sickly sweet, and the Cream Catalogue was served cold and not to one diner's taste. Staff removed the souffle from the bill after the diner mentioned it.

“Amazing restaurant! We found this place on the Michelin guide and decided to go on our anniversary. It is quite remote but well worth the journey. The history of the building is amazing and is now decorated so beautifully. The food was incredible, so full of flavour. We will definitely be coming back!”

“A wonderfully delicious Sunday lunch to celebrate a 40th birthday. Food was exquisite and the quality could be tasted. Group of 6 ladies who had lots to say, we were not rushed and able to take our time. Service was great with drinks poured for us, even table water. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Great experience from start to finish. Will be visiting again! 😊”

“Beautiful restaurant, very friendly staff, amazing food! The pesto with the bread is worth the visit alone. Also, try the Plough Summer Cup of you're looking for a refreshing drink.”

“Found via Michelin guide - thought we'd pop by and treat ourselves for dinner the night before a friend's wedding. Service was impeccable. Lovely environment. Good wine list. Highlight for me was the monkfish with parsley sauce, and I loved the little bits of mussels and squid on top. Scallop starter was also lovely. Husband enjoyed the pork cheeks very much. Dessert was a bit of a let down sadly as the blood orange souffle was still wet in the middle and unfortunately very sickly sweet (reason for 1 star deduction, otherwise would have been 5 stars). The ice cream that came with it was nice though. I mentioned this to the service staff who kindly removed it from the bill. Worth a visit if you're passing by the area. Came to around £140 for two people (3 courses with coffee and a beer/wine each).”
