About Hometown cafe@Grill
Hometown cafe@Grill is a fully halal grill in Bedford, at 84 Bedford Rd, with a Bengali twist running through its menu. Doner meat comes in several types, including doner biryani, and karak chai is the drink to go with it. Grilled chicken is served as strips or as a half chicken with rice and a chilli sauce, so halal diners have both lighter and fuller plates to choose from. The family behind the business brings years of experience from the catering industry. The grill is open daily, evenings only.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the grilled chicken, with one describing a half chicken with rice and a chilli sauce that complements it well. Close behind are the burgers, which one regular orders with extra sauce, and the doner biryani, which a diner says was made extra spicy on request. Others mention grilled strips, mixed biryani and karak chai that one couple called really good. Portions, freshness and reasonable prices come up repeatedly, along with staff described as polite, friendly and welcoming, and a halal menu with a Bengali twist. One reviewer notes the food arrived earlier than expected but the team called ahead to say so. The caveats are few. One reviewer wanted more consistency in preparation. Another, a regular with big groups, says a bill felt too high and, after asking the manager for an itemised copy, it was recalculated about £20 lower, which left them feeling the trust was broken and advising others to check large orders. The same reviewer had otherwise found the food and service good.

“Just want to share a recent experience at this place. We regularly come here as big groups. Food and services is good and we feel at home with the staff and management and never check or question the bill after a meal. Trust them to be honest and sincere. But on this occasion the bill felt too high than expected so asked the manager to provide an itemised bill- straight away noticed he felt uneasy and started to calculate the bill again and this time is was £20 less. Straight away I felt shattered as the trust we had was broken. I truly hate a dishonest business person. My advice is, if you place a large order here, please double check the invoice and do your own calculations. Don’t just trust what they say. Feeling really let down.”

“I ordered from Hometown recently and had a good experience overall. The food arrived on time, was fresh and well packaged, and the portions were generous. The flavours were enjoyable and everything was still hot on arrival. Prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity provided. The only area for improvement would be consistency in preparation, but overall I’d be happy to order again and would recommend Hometown to others.”
