Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the lakeside setting, with several describing views of the water, wildlife and a zip wire, and a wander around after eating. Food draws steady praise, led by the fillet steak with creamy mash, the Eton mess, and a Christmas menu with a black pudding sausage roll with date sauce and a crispy-potato turkey dinner. Close behind, staff are repeatedly called friendly, including one who made a family with a baby feel welcome. Portions split opinion: some call them big and heavy, while another found the Christmas pudding tiny. A few note noise from an upstairs party during dinner. The most serious complaint comes from one group who left without ordering after being told the restaurant was fully booked, then repeatedly asked "Are you eating?" and told a barefoot child was supposed to wear shoes because "it's a restaurant". They described the tone as rude and patronising. Free parking on site gets a mention, as does a pre-booking deposit that was deducted from the final bill.

“All the waiting staff are so lovely and so friendly - especially with my baby! Which was really helpful and made us feel much more at ease that she was welcome to dine with us! Great food. Big portions. Love love love.”

“We visited Corner 5 after wakeboarding with our children and friends, hoping to get something to eat before heading home, but unfortunately left without even ordering because of the way we were spoken to by staff. When we asked for a table, we were immediately told the restaurant was fully booked, which was absolutely fine. We were told we could sit outside, but were then repeatedly questioned, “Are you eating?” even after confirming that yes, we were there to eat. From the beginning, the whole interaction made us feel as though we weren’t particularly welcome. As we were walking towards the outdoor seating, one member of staff pointed out that one of the children wasn’t wearing shoes and said, “Your child is supposed to wear shoes, it’s a restaurant.” It wasn’t the rule that bothered us. If shoes are required, that’s completely understandable. It was the unnecessarily rude and patronising way it was said, particularly the emphasis on “it’s a restaurant”, as though we somehow didn’t understand where we were. We weren’t expecting special treatment, just basic politeness. The atmosphere from the staff was so uncomfortable that my friend and I looked at each other and decided we would rather leave and eat somewhere else. For somewhere in such a lovely location, the hospitality was incredibly disappointing. My partner is a member at Box End Park and wakeboards here every week, so this isn’t somewhere unfamiliar to us. We came in simply wanting to have a meal and left feeling unwelcome and spoken down to.”

“Very nice location looking out over a lake with a zip wire. Food was excellent and the service very friendly yet not overpowering. Fair pricing for good quality food.”
  • Rob
“Had a very nice sausage roll for a stater, it had black pudding and the date sauce was lovely and paired well. The turkey dinner was really good, the potatoes were very crispy and the turkey wasn’t dry at all and stuffed with a good stuffing. The Christmas pudding was nice but absolutely tiny portion even by restaurant standards. They were having an upstairs party and the bass or whatever you call it was heard repeatedly so somewhat annoying when having a dinner.”
