Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips come up most, described as perfect and quick to arrive by one diner, with a steak pie, seafood linguini and gnocchi also praised. Close behind, reviewers single out the panna cotta, the mini brownie, a brie, mushroom and cranberry Wellington at a roast dinner, and a cappuccino made by one barista. The hilltop views and friendly staff get repeated mentions, and groups describe a birthday party and a wedding that went smoothly. The main complaint is slow service when busy. One table waited more than an hour for a sandwich and fish and chips, another took two hours for two courses after starters and a main had sold out, and a dessert drink never arrived. Others describe a bacon sandwich that was mostly bread, cold chips, a steak asked for medium that arrived rare, and a tiramisu portion called miniscule. One reviewer asked for the service charge to be removed after the long wait, and the waiter processed it without asking why.

“I had my 50th birthday celebration at the Hare and Hounds. A party of 17. We pre ordered and it went off without a hitch! We sat in the conservatory and could see the amazing views. We all had roast dinner that was delicious, I can recommend the Brie, Mushroom and Cranberry Wellington. The portion size was perfect with lovely vegetables and crunchy roast potatoes that were soft & fluffy in the middle. I did order a side of cauliflower cheese as it’s my favourite with a roast. The waiting staff were friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The bar was well manned with friendly staff. It was a great few hours spending time with family and eating delicious food! Thank you ☺️”

“Highly recommended. I've eaten there 4 times in the past week -- and I'll go again. Yes, it's close to my Airbnb, but if it weren't for the amazing service, perfect atmosphere, and delicious food, I wouldn't have gone back after the first time. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, there are special deals during the week. If you are gluten-free, this place should to your list! They offer you a GF menu as you arrive. I've had the gnocchi, steak pie (outstanding!), hamburger (yum!), the seafood linguini (amazing), and my companion had the fiery falafel burger and loved it. I've tried 3 of the iced creams, all were perfect. The general vibe of everyone in the restaurant is immaculate. It's beautiful, cozy, welcoming. As a solo dinner, they treated me well and make me feel like a regular, even though I'm just a visitor here. (Sorry! No pic of the linguini or falafel burger, I forgot. But I took a picture of the bill as proof.)”

“This pub is right on top of a hill gifting a beautiful view for customers. This is like a cosy cafe mixed with bistro and pub vibes. There is a pizza bar downstairs in the garden. As I've said before the atmosphere is very nice and staff are friendly. We went there at about 7 pm and unlike other pubs you would hear barley any swearing and we didnt come across any drunk people. This would also be a perfect place for a romantic date.”

“My colleague and I stopped by for a meeting, and we had such a lovely experience. Libby looked after us and was an absolute delight to chat with. She also made us two fantastic coffees—honestly, one of the best cappuccinos we’ve had in a long time. If you visit, definitely ask Libby to make your cappuccino. You won’t be disappointed!”

“Amazing experience. The hare and hounds made our wedding day super special. The staff were outstandingly phenomenal. The food was on point! We had a beautiful breakfast. The atmosphere was fabulous! We really couldn’t have asked for anything more special. They all went above and beyond. On top of that - great views for photos and the children had the best time running around on the grass. Thank you so much to you all.”
