About The Yak and Yeti Gurkha Restaurant
On Goodramgate in York, The Yak and Yeti Gurkha Restaurant is a Nepalese restaurant at 63A, and it is the first independent Nepalese family restaurant in York, North Yorkshire. Its menu centres on momos, with vegetable momos served either steamed or in jhol, and chilli momos for a different take on the dumpling. Chicken chowmein comes alongside them, so a table can order dumplings and noodles together. Vegetarian and vegan options are labelled clearly on the menu, which makes it simple to see which dishes fit those diets. The restaurant opens Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Momos draw the most mentions. One diner calls the chilli momos easily one of the best they have had, and a vegan reviewer enjoyed steamed and jhol vegetable momos, though the jhol came with only six and prompted a second order. Chow mein, pani puri and chatpatte also earn praise, along with tender, juicy lamb chops, a complimentary soup, a generous nutty baklava and a pork belly dish that left one diner's partner wanting to learn to cook it. Staff are called welcoming and friendly, and vegetarian options are clearly marked. Mains draw the complaints. One reviewer wanted more spice and salt, another more flavour in the lamb chops, and a Nepali diner found the chicken choila inauthentic, the lemonade bottled-tasting, and service inattentive on a quiet night. Two reviewers mention stairs at the entrance. That same Nepali diner noted the thakali masu bhatt set arrived without the hot ghee poured over the rice.

“Went in expecting a lot more, but the mains just lacked taste. Had the chilli momo starter which was actually pretty good, tea was just ok chai. Atmosphere was nice, but would like to see more spice and salt in mains.”

“My 2nd visit and still a top restaurant in York, if you're not familiar with Nepalese cuisine you need to try the Yak and yeti”

“Had vege Momo ( steamed and jhol ) which were both vegan and a chicken dish. Both were super tasty and fragrant, wish we got more Momonin the Johl as there were only 6 and I had to order another portion! Lovely ambience and staff were accommodating of my veganism and the menu was clearly labeled!”
