About Everest Gurkha Nepalese Restaurant
Everest Gurkha Nepalese Restaurant serves Nepalese cooking at 7 Fossgate in York city centre, close to The Shambles. The kitchen works from recipes that came from the foothills of the Himalayas, and the menu moves from momo to slow cooked curries. Lamb Taas and Dal Bhat are among the dishes, and the team can cook them low or medium spiced. Dogs are welcome in the dining room, so diners can bring their pets along when they eat.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the momos, with chicken, pork and vegetable versions named, and one calling them a must. Close behind is the lamb, especially the lamb taas and Himalayan lamb curry, which several recommend, along with the dal bhat. Also mentioned are the chicken chhoila starter, poppadom, butter naan, Everest beer and lassi. Diners describe the food as delicious and authentic, with large portions and reasonable prices, and a couple who had been to Nepal say the flavours matched what they remembered. Staff are called friendly and service quick. One reviewer says the kitchen cooks low or medium spiced on request, and another with a dairy allergy says their needs were accommodated. In one rating breakdown, sukuti and chowmein scored lower than the momos. No reviewer raises a complaint beyond that. One reviewer suggests booking in advance. Another says a table that arrived close to closing was never rushed to leave.

“Visited this place for the first time and LOVED the food. Everything was absolutely delicious, quickly served and the staff was very friendly. You know the place is really good when you leave a review as soon as you’ve finished your meal! We were so full with the large portion sizes as well. Complete value for money definitely will be back here :))”

“Happened upon this place whilst walking to another place to eat and decided to try it instead as I’d never had Nepalese food before. We were very close to closing (and the last to leave as you can see from the photo) but they accommodated us making us feel very welcomed and not once did we feel rushed to finish and leave like you can get in some places when you’re the last ones there. We wanted to try lots of traditional Nepalese drinks and food and WOW! I wish I lived closer to York because this would become a frequent restaurant visit if I did! The food was very reasonably priced, especially for the quality and amount you got. It was absolutely delicious and they will cook low or medium spiced to your liking! From the chicken Chhoila starter to the Lamb TAAS (my favourite and ABSOLUTELY recommended as the menu suggests) and Himalayan lamb curry everything was perfectly cooked and tasted… just… wow! I would whole heartedly recommend this restaurant! I very much wish I could work my way through the whole menu!”
